Gaming 256GB SDXC on Wii???

I personally stick to only SanDisk & PNY, never had any issued with any bought on Amazon. Just make the seller is SanDisk or PNY.

OMG, just saw from that link the PNY 512GB is down to $89.99, it might be time for me to move up. To save some $$$ the 256GB SDXC for $34.99 looks like a good pretty good low cost deal to me.

This is an off topic question but on my 2gb sd card I have the homebrew channel, nearly all wad managers, plenty of emulators (about 8) loaders etc, basically I'm loaded and I'm set with my modded wii. Here's the question, I am considering about upgrading my sd card from 2gb to 64gb. I was wondering, could I just take out all of my 2gb sd card's content and transfer it to a 64gb without any problems or are there some extra stuff I'll have to clear out. An answer would be heavily appreciated

take an SD card from a well-known brand that works well.
Then format it in FAT 32 with "" guiformat "".

Yes, just copy the contents from the old card to the new card, but make sure its properly formatted.

As @jeannotte mentioned above, use a well known brand, stay away from those cheap generic cards and format the SD card with guiformat to get it properly formatted as FAT32 with 32k clusters. I use PNY & SanDisk bought off Amazon, and if you look around they are pretty low in price these days.

I should have also pointed out to use an SDXC chip you'll need to be on a system menu of 4.0 or greater, otherwise it will not recognize the chip. I'm using system menu 4.3U.

I use Samsung EVO 64gb SD card. I tried SanDisk 64gb and i have many random issue with this card. Like gc games freeze, etc. When i copy and paste all needed stuff from SanDisk to Samsung card. I dont have any of those issues. Gc games working fine, any Wii games too. No more random freezes. Of course i play all my stuff only from SD card with Wii flow.
 
Has anyone tried a 256 SDXC card on the Wii??

I'd like to get out of my 32GB chip and into a larger one. I see Amazon has the PNY SDXC 256GB Class 10 UHS-1 for $89.99 and would like to know who's using 64, 128 or 256 size cards successfully before I purchase.

Any comment/recommendations are appreciated...



****Updated 11/02/16 - Thanks to Many. To avoid having people read through all the following posts: YES, both 128GB SDXC & 256GB SDXC Chips work. I'm using system menu 4.3U. Note that ANY system menu 4.0+ and higher will read SDXC cards. Just make sure to use FAT32 GUI FORMATTER to format them as FAT32 with 32k clusters.

Forgot I'd started this threat way back when and just updating it to reflect that there does not seem to be a limit to the size of SD card that can be used. If only the cost of a 2TB SD card was reasonable I'd have one., with all expectation it would work.
I have several 256GB cards and they work well, especially the Toshiba and Philips ones. Both are Class 10. I have a 512GB SanDisk card and I use it as data storage because it gave me problems, and I often use it, for example, to create a cache of Wiiflow cover art, but it takes quite a while for games to appear in Wiiflow, for instance, compared to the 256GB cards. I don't know if it's because of the size or the microSD card itself. I also have 128GB cards and those perform like the 256GB ones or even worse, but I suppose it's due to the quality of the microSD card compared to the brand.

Hmmm, I use full size SD cards, so I haven't run into any issues, but I might test the loading speed between them just to have fun. I'm contently swapping chips around, so I haven't really taken notice. I'm used to it taking time to populate (at least the first time on each unit) and should probably thin down the game list and covers to just the ones needed to make it go faster.

In my experience with Wiiflow, without getting into the issue of the microSD cards used, the program runs more smoothly when the folder and file structure is well managed. For example, if you don't use the Atari 2600 emulator, remove the plugin for that emulator, especially if it's indexed in the source_menu. You can move it to a folder outside the plugins folder, for example. In other words, try to simplify the Wiiflow data loading process. Also, try to make Wiiflow a more stable structure with fewer files. One trick I discovered is to remove the cover art from the Wiiflow system once it has been cached. Wiiflow then reads the cover art from the cache folder instead of the cover art folders. Wiiflow likely reads the cover art folders before reading from the cache to update the covers, which increases the loading time. Also, check if there are any repeated plugin magic numbers in Wiiflow's functional structure, as this redundancy can lead to a delay in program loading. I don't know if these things are directly related to Wiiflow loading because I'm not a computer expert... I'm just speculating... based on experience
