I have a switch 2, it sits in the dock most of the time, and my switch 1 is what I'm still using the most. The fact that there is still no working youtube app on the S2 is pretty disappointing. I just want to transition from playing a game to watching some youtube, and back, without switching devices, HDMI inputs, or anything else. The S1 is capable of it, why is it taking the S2 so long to bring us the same capability?
Yeah, games pretty much universally run better on the S2, problem is I don't own the vast majority of my games, so the S2 gets next to no use. I played MKW, the new Donkey Kong, and Pokemon ZA on there. The game-chat feature is pretty pointless, because I already have to be friends with people in order to chat with them. So I can't use it to say, coordinate some raids with randoms I meet while playing in-game. The entire feature just seems silly to me with the way it is implemented. It should be an opt-in / opt-out kind of thing and not require everyone to be friends first. Shit, I might actually make some friends talking with random people, who's to say? I have yet to use to mouse feature for anything other than the S2 welcome tour tbh. The new kickstand on the S2 rocks, it's way better than on the S1 and I am pleasantly surprised with it. I also appreciate the top and bottom USB-C port. The battery life is worse than my launch day S1 surprisingly, and I struggle to get 2 full hours of playing MKW out of it, for example. The S2 has so much potential, and it's just sitting there. Getting me to spend 100 CAD on a S2 title has to overcome a huge threshold, I can afford to do that maybe 5 - 6 times a year. MKW and Donkey Kong were fun, but not $200+ of fun. No doubt I will probably spend another $60 on the inevitable MKW booster pass DLC or whatever. The $100 on Pokemon ZA I can justify, since I actually play pokemon games online and use their online services, the other two I regret purchasing (and have no way to re-sell, since physical copies are or were extremely difficult to find).
Also, to not have proper game recording on such capable hardware is also pretty disappointing. There's no real reason to limit me to 30 second clips when I have 3/4 of a TB of storage available, just let me record more than 30 seconds please... Dump the video file straight on the SD for all I care, having the option would be really nice. I often want to record specific sequences of actions that take more than 30 seconds to complete, and I end up having to splice clips on my computer afterwards. Sure, just use a capture card you say, I hear you, but there's no real reason it has to be this way
Ultimately, if I didn't have my S2 I would be $600+ richer, and not be missing out on anything important, since Pokemon ZA also came out for the S1. It's nice hardware, sure, but until the next main series Pokemon game comes out as a S2 exclusive, I am just fine not owning one. I have some pretty mixed feelings about the S2 and the launch of it. Best selling console or not, it doesn't really change my feelings towards it.
