Following the recent leaked set footage from the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie, Nintendo has unveiled the first official look at Link and Zelda via the X platform.

The movie has begun principal photography in New Zealand and is scheduled for a 7th May 2027 release date. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, known for The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) is set to play Link, while Bo Bragason (The Radleys, 2024) has been cast as Princess Zelda.

Recent leaked footage which we won't share here showed a glimpse of Bo Bragason (Zelda) in a forest location talking to another character which fans have speculated may be Impa alongside several horses and knights. Zelda is wearing a royal blue outfit reminiscent of her outfit in Breath of the Wild while Link can be seen wearing his traditional green tunic.

Miyamoto took to X/Twitter to share the official first look, saying:

Miyamoto via X said:
This is Miyamoto. We have commenced principal photography on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda amidst magnificent natural landscapes, alongside Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Filming is progressing smoothly, so we would be grateful if you could kindly bear with us. The theatrical release is scheduled for 7th May 2027. Please wait a little longer.

I just hope Link doesn't get overshadowed by Zelda, considering in almost every single game it's him doing all the dungeon exploring and monster slaying, not her.
She's a bit more active in TotK - in the past, separated from Link - but that's only the one game. Link should be the main character of this movie by far if it wants to be faithful to the source franchise.

I have to say, if they really are the true actors, they look at least alright believable similar to the roles.
Also it looks very much like BotW Era..

I haven't; in that game, she accompanies Link, as a spirit. She literally cannot fight alongside him unless she possesses a Phantom, I believe the enemies are called, though - so yeah, in almost every game in this franchise she's not a direct fighter or explorer, as that's Link's (the player's) role.

Oh, and something else? In every game she appeared in before BotW, she always wore nice, fancy dresses, as befitting her title as "Princess", even as a spirit in Spirit Tracks - I really do hope Bo stays true to her character's history by donning a fancy dress for some portion of the movie, instead of remaining in the unflattering blue-shirt-and-dark-pants getup BotW and TotK forced Zelda into.

"it's him doing all the dungeon exploring and monster slaying"

In spirit tracks they are monster slaying together

Neat, real lord of the rings vibe.
I would have preferred a studio ghibli animated version for the various supernatural, naturalist, and spiritual aspects in zelda.
I'm a bit worried they will remove the magic parts for a more grounded take.

I feel you on that. I need a Luigi's mansion movie though.
Aonuma did say Twilight Princess was attempting to go for a LoTR style so that fits

Movie will be mediocre trash. Nothing more than a cheaply done cash grab relying solely on the Zelda name to sell tickets. You do not adapt a franchise like Zelda for the big screen & then proceed to cast 2 untalented actors that no one has ever heard of. An adaption of a franchise like Zelda requires tens of millions of dollars & known faces.

I did, because I could never play it due to the dumb ass controls. Stylus controls cramp my wrist up fast, and I can't see shit with my hand blocking most of the screen!

Why couldn't it be CGI? Sure Zelda doesn't seem that bad to adapt to live action until you realise most of the enemies wouldn't look good.
They should have went with something like this.

Play on PC with wacom tablet

I wonder if they are going to do a time traveling story. Animation would have been great, but Zelda is a fair pick, if they really want to do live action movies. Does make me wonder if they are planning other live action movies. Maybe like Kid Icarus or Metroid?

As for a NCU, they can still do it, they just have to have everyone animated or find live action equivalents, when they characters are together.

I thought people didn't like companies always picking popular actors. I can't think of celebrities that fit these two anyway.

I hope Link stays silent other than his grunts throughout the movie.
I doubt it, but maybe they will do a minimum amount of lines as a middle ground.
