Where is the English version of DBI?

where do you got that information?
This dev's message on Github (from 23rd September) and his previous warning both make sense now. Seems very obvious to me that there's some trigger if you'll interfere with the code (like adding English translation). Problem that Zumoly mentioned about might be just one of the consequences. You have to remember that we don't have the source code, so we don't know what's going on inside and to what degree dev is interfering with things, maliciously.

@Zumoly Could you confirm that this happens with more games that you previously installed with DBI (English) and then tried to use other installer and they didn't work? Did your dumps work before? Can you confirm that they were working before on the same firmware version with the same sys-patch/sigpatches (if you're using them) when installed them just with other installer or for example just the Russian version of DBI?

I won't even use any of his code on my device, so I can't test it myself.

P.S. Just as a reminder for everyone

Also, read all of his posts in this topic.

If there is some trigger that causes games to not work after installing due to malware in English translated version of DBI, imo there would be far more widespread reports of it. I call bs. How are there many others using it without the same problem?

Lol, wut? There is ton of people using this, myself included, and as far as I can tell there are no issues.

I have a feeling that the "tag" doing malicious things is deeply connected to your belief that it in fact does exist. Pretty much like Gods from Terry Prattchet books. :)

Any chance you are somehow connected to that torrent-bot Brazilian telegram group? Those guys believe the same nonsense (probably because most of them use ftp transfer?), instead of simply disabling MSG_WAITALL, which is broken in 810. :)

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Anyway, I won't trust anything that comes out of his hands. Too many obvious red flags and everyone should be aware of them. No normal person behaves like that.

How are you so sure that nothing malicious exists? Do you have the source code?

BTW: DBI and he should've been banned long time ago after making all those threats. Probably, that's not just my opinion.

I have a second Switch where those titles install and work just fine. The problem started happening to me after using the newest English version. Previously installed titles work just fine.

I don't think that's a DBI issue related...

I obviously don't have source code. I have seen good share of its decompile, if that counts. However, obviously, thats not a proof.

I believe no one is forcing anyone to use it. The author even discourages it.

I personally think people are overthinking it. Let's go by this diagram:

Afraid of loosing your switch and don't have backups? - don't use it

Afraid of loosing your switch, have backups, but still afraid? - don't use it

Still here? - let's use it! :)

As for zumoly above:

Are you completely positive both switches use the same configuration, firmware and set of homebrew? Is this homebrew (mainly syspatch) configured the same? Are the dbi configs the same? Does using another SD card fix the issue? Does restoring backup fix the issue?

I bet you have tried all of those, so it's clearly the tag. :)

It might or might not be trolling, I think only the author knows for sure. Either way, whoever doesn't like it is free to use other installers instead.
This is exactly my problem with EVERYTHING related to DBI. All I want is some clear answers that can be taken seriously, and if there's some evidence on top of that, then that'd be great. But that's apparantly the only thing I just can't seem to find whenever it's about DBI.

I just want a definitive, serious answer with zero sarcasm and zero hyperbolic crap: is the message added to that git page just tasteless trolling or will the newer versions actually mess with my Switch?

Do you realise you won't get such answer, right? And if duckbill came, and said either he is serious or that he is just trolling - you would automagically believe him this time? :D

Anyway, it is my understanding, that as of hos 21, most homebrew will have to be recompiled, so 810 will probably become obsolete and you won't have to make this VERY HARD decision whether to use POSSIBLY MALICIOUS homebrew on your NINTENDO SWITCH. :)

Well then there's no proof that there isn't and having his words in mind, it's reckless to use anything that was done by him. That's not even for discussion. Some people are not overthinking, they just look at things realistically with everything being black on white. Even if it's a gaming console, there's zero reasons to risk anything bad happening to it. This happy face emote doesn't change a thing here, threats are there, malicious intentions as well. Also, there's no need to advocate for him as he made himself clear.

Just don't use anything he created and get an alternative from someone who has nothing but good intentions in mind. ITotalJustice for example made an awesome, universal tool, he's been always helpful to people without any weird outbursts. Not only with Sphaira actually. Like also many other people from the scene. DBI's dev? Lost his credibility completely.

@Zumoly I do believe you.

@Nynrah Answers are there, black on white starting with linguistic racism, thru discrimination, outbursts of anger and finishing on bad will and bad faith. Just be realistic based on what you read, that's all.

You just keep repeating yesterday's news. Did you have any issues with dbi?

There are alternatives, and that is great. I even have patreon subscription for sphaira, I believe.

Everything you are so worried about is clearly documented in both rashevsky's git repo and dbipatcher one.

You are probably old enough to order a drink, so you should be able to read and make informed decision about whether you want to use it or not. As other people are.

It seems to me that you are just trying to start yet another round of drama.

I will keep repeating this, because some peope might be unware of it. I already wrote about all the issues with it and why no one should use it. It's nice that you have a subscription for Sphaira and that you support ITotalJustice. He deserves it.

Nothing is documented on his github, besides a published usage guide. There's no source code, so I don't know why you're bringing this up. I'm old enough to understand the risk and not to excuse developer who has bad and malicious intentions and writing about it everyhwre, like you do in other topics by stating that he has some mental issues. That's just guessing and projecting.

I'm keeping myself far from dramas. I'll just keep reminding, because again some people might not be aware, what this person did, does, wrote and writes continuously and I'll be writing about alternatives.

Oh, I see where the confusion comes from. Rashevsky, who maintains the github repo, is NOT duckbill. So, there obviously don't have source code to publish.

He apparently asked duckbill whether he can publish it and that's where all the tagged console stuff comes from.

By documented, I mean those messages from duckbill reprinted in close proximity of translation download link. For everyone to see and make informed decision based on that.

There is really no need for you to take this whole public protector stance of yours.

For example I, will keep using DBI for as long as possible, because I really dislike sphaira ui. There may be other people who feel the same. Or need some obscure dbi feature which sphaira does not support.

Those people will read the disclaimers on git, and decide whether it's worth it for them.

edit: this discussion is also mostly academic. There are thousands of people using the translated version and apparently aside from one guy are experiencing no issues with it. We could say that it has been empirically proven than duckbill was just trolling. :) (obligatory smiley face)

His country is lead by a literal bloodthirsty dictator who assassinates political opposition, invades countries just because, is corrupt and a liar, has disappeared LGBT activists, journalists, and much more. But yeah, I guess the dev has his reasons to support Russian only apps.
Wait what country is this again?

That's what it's looking like. And no, I'm not believing or asking duckbill because I see no sign of him actually giving serious responses. Although it's not just about the dev. Most other people also seem incapable of trying to give straight answers, resorting to sarcams and hyperboles instead of trying to keep it factual and share their experiences, if nothing else.

I still use the latest official english version as it's been working fine enough so far. It's just that the whole translation stuff on newer versions caught my interest. It could have been useful even if just for bugfixes and such. I am not sure what you mean about an 810+ version suddenly not being 'possibly malicious'. The situation is no different from before, isn't it?

Yeah, that's where the confusion comes from. I've ignored the whole bricking comments from the past because it clearly looked like a biting/sarcastic response to me whereas others treated it like the smoking gun "He admitted it!". This message on Rashevsky's github repo did kind of spook me because I couldn't determine what it meant or implied. Lack of context and all that.

For now my current version still works fine, so I'll just wait and see for a while.

Oh, 810+ will still be possibly malicious, it's just that the translated 810 in question will probably no longer work on hos 21.
