I know Metroid Prime 4 is shaping up to be divisive and if I end up on the side that's making a case for the game I don't want to take it personally when someone else calls me totally out of touch for not seeing how bad it turned out and that I slurp up any slop that Nintendo shoves down my throat...

Look, I want to discuss the shit I play with other people. The problem comes with when those conversations are constantly peppered with the need to validate why you were able to tolerate something that is widely agreed to be a mistake of design.

Why are people crying about MP4? I did a quick google and couldn't find anything.

Gamers are usually the biggest insecure crybabies so I wouldn't care too much until you play the game.
It looks dated, Nintendo have been marketing this very conservatively for a game that was announced so long ago, and the gameplay footage doesn't necessarily inspire confidence thanks to the barren and unnatural-for-Metroid biking segments are the main gripes I've come across.

It's one of those things. When Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty came out, it was divisive because of Raiden's inclusion. Plus, the Big Shell was a bit of a bland backdrop. Over time, people looked beyond the disagreements and found a good sequel to the first game.

In Metroid Prime 4's case, there are some staunch anti-Nintendo folks that will be angry with the final product no matter what. There will be people that feel Retro Studios isn't the company they were when even Metroid Prime 3 came out. There are those that dislike modern gaming as a whole and dislike any sequel/remake of an older series. Everyone is coming from a different viewpoint and level of dedication.

It all comes down to if you find the game fun and if you think the game is a worthy successor to the previous trilogy. You will have to argue your case, but it helps not to be emotional. You'll have to fend off users being emotional themselves, and you'll have to be ready to accept counterpoints and ask if they're valid. Think of argumentation as a sport more than life or de*th.

TL;DR: It's just video games.

The game looks great imho, I've also seen most people hyped about it online.

They're crying about Nintendo being Nintendo? Sounds like typical Nintendo fans.

I had to look up "Samus on a Bike," and the motorcycle mechanics look a bit stiff. I do wonder if adding that kind of long-form exploration would be a detriment to the Metroid formula, especially with backtracking. The idea of combat on the SamusSycle sounds fun, so it's definitely a wait-and-see thing.

I got Jak 3 vibes watching the desert motorbiking, which I don't consider a bad thing.

Being able to teleport (and the bike finds the nearest entrance to your location), would alleviate some of my concerns. Overall, I'd be interested to see if this ends up being a positive for the game.

Going by the posts you make, i take it is not so much a matter of the game itself but about acceptance. You want to get that game(i presume on day 1),and your friends don't get why you're going to. Correct thus far?

If so... Do role reversal. Do you judge your friends on games they like? What if they played something with outdated graphics?

If yes... Are those friendships worth pursuiing? Aren't there other things you can do to spend meaningful time together?

If no... Step back and project their attitude to you. Will they really care? Are they really dismissing you as a person or are just cracking jokes among friends?

I'd also that i can't really help you not to care. That's your job. But i can ask you to ask for yourself...

Why do I care so much about this?

Best of luck, dude. Gaming's a fun hobby. Don't let harmful opinions get in your way.

Until I got ultra-banned. I haven't tried to go back, mostly since downvoting makes me insane...
Alright, you DO belong here then.

So, it's OK to be wrong, especially since Nintenderp hasn't nor honestly is likely to ever release a truly perfect or grand game in the modern era, and thus some slop can taste pretty good. They also know, VERY damn well, that your average consumer doesn't really care and big N's high end of the bar starts right there. And all of that is perfectly fine, but thus naturally isn't for everyone.
