Anyone upgrading to Windows 11?

My PC is several years older than the OP's laptop and Win11 runs perfectly fine on my unsupported hardware. Easiest way to bypass the TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, RAM, and Microsoft Account requirements is to use an official MS Win11 iso with Rufus to create a USB installer. Easy peasy.

Don't click bad links, as usual, and its just fine.

I mean, yeah, until some website you visit on a daily basis gets popped and serves up a zero-day that was discovered 8 months prior that never got patched because the OS was declared EOL a year ago.

I wouldn't want to put a Windows XP system on the internet in 2025 either regardless of what links I'm clicking.

As a matter of fact, no, I will not be upgrading or dual-booting my PC with a spyware-ridden mess of an operating system. I believe that most (but not all) people would migrate to Windows 10 IoT LTSC, which includes another 7-years of security updates, which should be enough before they make the switch to either Windows 11 (after it has been entirely fleshed out) or Linux. This all depends on your needs, so if you only use a PC to write documents, watch videos, and chat to people online, you should be fine switching to Linux; otherwise, if you play a lot of games that rely on DirectX, stick with Windows 10; in fact, Linux isn't very good at running all games that heavily rely on DirectX, instead it opts for the Vulkan driver if you have a NVIDIA graphics card installed, which drastically reduces performance by half.

Nobody wants to keep XP on their machine connected to the internet all the time, and I understand why, as it's the most popular operating system for spyware, trojans, RATs, and all sorts of malware after Microsoft had since ended support over 11-years ago as of writing. This only occurs if you didn't properly configure a firewall and/or have not updated XP with the final updates.

I switched to Linux and my computer runs W11 on another SSD. I can't log into Windows now because my correct password doesn't work so need to reinstall W11. Still haven't bothered to reinstall it.
Not sure if you've heard of MediCat USB before? If you have a machine running Windows that you forgot the password to, you can write it to a USB formatted with Ventoy and recover the password this way, as MediCat is meant to be a recovery USB much like Hiren's Boot CD/DVD but more packed with utilities. It's roughly 20GB or more if you are patient in downloading it.

So, Windows 10 is officially end of life, as you all know. My laptop from 2012s done well, a couple upgrades and now it's stably running Windows 10. And if course, once I've got it stable, it's OS becomes discontinued. If I try, I'm sure it can run Windows 11 ok, but I'm keeping it at 10. Is the upgrade to Windows 11 worth it in anyone's opinion? Thanks!
I think you meant to say downgrade.

My desktop is on Windows 11 solely for RTX HDR support. It's okay after some necessary tweaks but I see no reason to update my laptop as it doesn't get used with HDR displays. I have enrolled for the 1 year of extended support and beyond that LTSC is an option until Windows 12 releases. So you can quite easily skip over Windows 11 completely assuming Windows 12 releases in the next 6 years (seems likely) and not miss out on security updates.

Microsoft have released so many broken updates lately, I don't trust them at all. Every other week there seems to be a new update that breaks fundamental functionality. They managed to break the rollback feature so you can't even rely on being able to roll back if an update breaks things so badly that it renders the PC unusable. Right now only getting security updates and no feature updates seems like a blessing.

I use my laptop way more than my desktop so I am dependant on it functioning correctly and the current state of Windows updates feels like playing a game of Minesweeper where I have no control over which squares get clicked, and besides Windows 11 being functionally and objectively worse than 10 it just isn't worth the risk.

Last time I booted Windows 11, it wiped my Linux bootloader and I had to rebuild it.

I'm using Windows 11 22H2 on a PC that doesn't support Windows 11 because it lacks TPM 2.0, and so far I haven't had any problems.

I should clarify that I use the PC for development, not for playing the latest games. I'd like to have a bit more RAM, as with only 16GB I struggle to keep programs like Unity, Visual Studio 2022, and Meet/Zoom open simultaneously.

As if Win10 doesn't have telemetry. Always makes me laugh to see people bash Win11 because of it but then recommend Win10.

Been using Win11 since day one. Don't have these issues. Not saying anyone else hasn't had them, but I personally haven't had one, single, issue with Win11 or any of it's updates. Don't care about roll back as I've never needed to use it and I've always disabled the System Restore service upon install. Have never once had Windows Update break anything, let along to the point of the PC being unusable.

"Windows 11 being functionally and objectively worse than 10" is in fact a 100% objective statement. My guess is more along the lines of user incompetence.

Windows 11 is fine. It's Windows, for better and for worse. This "Windows 10 is the best! I hate Windows 11" bandwagon just seems utterly pointless to me. They're both *fine enough*, but also annoying at times.
The hatred for 11 runs deep for several valid reasons. The start menu being centered by default alone pisses folks off. It's been bottom-left of the screen since Windows 95, so that fucks with people's muscle memory. Then you have the default theme being bright as fuck, which also sucks for everyone that is photosensitive and is used to dark-themed *everything* like myself. And then you have the constant MAJOR issues when it comes to Windows 11 updates that are causing bootloops (24H2) and killing off SSDs (25H2). I don't want to deal with *ANY* of that. The OS is anything but stable, and they're trying to shove it down our throats by shutting down Windows 10 faster than they should. I.T. professionals especially hate it now, as we can't even make offline accounts anymore. Add on top of that the whole "login passwords are going away" thing, and that's an I.T. nightmare to deal with, even on a small scale. Having to install registry hacks just to get the right-click on the desktop back to normal and useful after installation is anything but ideal. Having to remove Microsoft's arbitrary system requirements before installation isn't ideal. This whole OS is a huge pain in the ass right out of the box for the average person.

No, thank you.

Windows 10 has been stable for about 3 full years now, and I'll enroll myself in free ESU updates via Massgrave until some of this Windows 11 fuckery changes for the better and the OS isn't an unstable shit-show, thank you very much.

Not going to go into details on everything that's complete nonsense in all of that, but for starters the entire SSD thing is BS. It was due to faulty firmware, not Win11. All just more of the typical Win11 fear mongering.

I don't think its W11 fear mongering but W11 being the final nail in the coffin of MS shittery with Linux becoming more and more a viable alternative.

for some tech people, yes.
for companies that use proprietary software that requires support (which is the vast majority) - they'll be sticking with Windows.

I'm so sick of Windows but the compatibility is still holding me there. I am getting a framework laptop in a few weeks though and think I'll try Arch (btw) and see if I can find a solution to every incompatibility. If so, I'll switch my desktop as well
