Nintendo releases new animated short film, "Close to You"

Today, Nintendo quietly released a new animated short. The 4-minute animation features a baby chasing a pacifier that magically levitates around a room. With the short dropping out of nowhere, fans have been discussing what exactly Nintendo is teasing by releasing it; whether it was a proof of concept to show the company's animation skills, or as a soft tease for a Pikmin game, since the video features a handful of musical cues from the series.

@Sd4930Ur You a fan of the Imagine Babyz games? I see there's one called Imagine: Party Babyz. What's the new one going to be called? Imagine: Babyz Switch? It sounds so wrong.

Oooh, that's slick.

I remember how that fad fizzled out really fast in the early 2000's. There was one for of those for Fiat.

It showed Jennifer Lopez escaping fans(?) in her Fiat, but more people kept appearing. It looked like she was going to be overwhelmed by fans(?), but WAIT! You have to go to Fiat.net.gov to find out the ending.

I never went to the website to see what happened.

TL;DR: A Jennifer Lopez Fiat ad has something in common with a Pikmin ad.

Yep you are right i forgot nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of America the leadership in their hands right now: Devon Pritchford.

Before her was ex-EA Doug Bowser in the leadership.

Edit: Fixed some words, its not my native language and im not fixing it with ia. I use my knowledge learned from schools and live sometime ago in San Franscico.
I was more mentioning that to NoA the "President" is not the CEO they are the COO. They always had a leader above them that wasnt part of Nintendo Japan. Satoru Shibata actually used to be President/COO of NoE but is now becoming CEO of NoA

Y’all do know they went from a “Gaming” Company to a “Entertainment” Company?

It’s called expansion. This was probably done by Nintendo Pictures, so the argument of them wasting their time is pointless

That’s their job

Y’all really gonna be pissed over something that exists

In what way is this gonna degrade anything???
i worked for a company called circuit city ages ago. it owned car max, its own bank, and had many side hustles that spawned out of it. circuit city invested over 100million into divx and was trying to control dvd player market and even make their own brand. they were ahead of best buy which now does these things with the ideas but divx failed heavily and the stores suffered and the pr and downturn from the vultures circling off a bad investment led to circuit city's demise.

It wasn't just one thing but expanding into domains that they weren't great at is how sometimes you fail. the irony of it all is the bank that circuit city owned and car max are now bigger than what circuit city ever was.

It can work both ways. nintendo is spreading itself thin right now when most people want to see them ate by vultures. they ahve to be very careful. no one is going to shed a tear if nintendo falls.

companies have a wierd way of surviving or failing out when they are successful behemoths which circuit city was at one time. with microsoft and sony i just think nintendo is going to end up like circuit city and best buy is sony. sony will exist because they didnt do what nintendo has done to their image. and im no huge fan of sony consoles.

I appreciate the shoutout to Circuit City. I was a kid when those ads were being played. The plug would come down from the sky and complete the front of the building. Good times.

Although, I remember DivX requiring its own codecs, which made playback a larger hassle. I don't miss those days, as I've frequently mentioned.

It's true, the video games industry has a few examples of companies that attempted to expand into new markets. A relevant (and predictable) one is Squaresoft with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. The movie lost about $100 million USD and delayed the Square-Enix merger we all know and know. Plus, there were plans to use the main character model in unrelated roles- a digital actor talent pool-, but that was all canned.

What is this? Seriously, what did I watch just now? Was this even anything? What's going on with that pacifier? Who's the kid? Who's the mom? Was there something moving in the background? Is Furukawa already turning Nintendo into a movie studio? Was Illumination involved? Does this confirm Pikmin 60 1/2? Is Mario the kid's father?!? Am I asking too many questions?????

...None of this may ever be answered by Nintendo, but time will tell.

Well Circuit City is just one of those 80's stores that peaked at that time (We had a similar situation with Fry's) + they invested in things that have no correlation to each other at all

Nintendo and animation work well with each other, they did cutscenes before and they legit had a movie of one of their IPs and another one next year, so my point of them expanding into new media like animation still stands

Japan's population is collapsing, this is just trying to reverse that trend

broken joycon part - risk to baby
Rumour has it that there was a broken Nintendo Switch joycon part in the room, which the baby could have swallowed while the mother left the baby alone. Sources close to the family have told us that either the father or the mother were attempting Do-It-Yourself repair of their Switch thumbsticks, opting to replace the faulty parts with Hall Effect Sensor sticks rather than send it back to Nintendo. Nintendo only replaces them with the same badly-engineered parts: Nintendo still doesn't provide Hall Effect Sensor thumbsticks in 2025. https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Supp...-syndrome-or-so-called-drifting--1908347.html

propaganda
The elongated pacifier at 1:05 and elsewhere reminds the viewer about Nintendo's Love Hotels https://kotaku.com/the-nintendo-theyve-tried-to-forget-gambling-gangster-5784314 . The phallic symbolism follows in the footsteps of Disney. Disney's involvement in State Propaganda is well-known (or should be). The user is reminded that the CIA and the entertainment industry (Hollywood) have had ties ever since the Office Of Strategic Services (OSS) was started. It's far worse now. Disney itself owns ABC News. The interested researcher might be interested in Operation Mockingbird, which continues to this day. The State has its hand in almost all the art we see today. Viewers may want to watch the end credits of the movies to see which State funded the piece (or which taxpayer slaves helped subsidise it).

dirty pacifier
When the mother puts the pacifier in the baby's mouth after it's been god-knows-where...and doesn't ask any questions about where she found it, and doesn't clean it, that reminds the viewer of Nintendo's true values. Then there's this: https://arnika.org/en/news/dangerou...r-organizations-demand-stricter-eu-regulation

we thank Nintendo
Thank you, Nintendo, for this propaganda piece. Gamers will not have to complain about game prices or console prices now. They know that at least one small portion of their money is being spent responsibly.

Are you employed? Coming from an underemployed individual, you sound unemployed. Not because you're necessarily wrong, mind you, just... verbose.
