Yeah this is not really true IRL.

It... does? The political compass exists for a reason (and you could argue is still leads to very obvious problems). As much as a lot of people like to use them dichotomies are probably one of the worst measures of human behavior

We like to talk about politics like they are soccer teams but in reality hardly anyone is radicalized enough to be completely in pro of one side or another, and even then defining sides is hard (depending on the country your central could be someone's right or someone's extreme left, like seen generally with the US)

This is not in favor of an "enlighten centrist" take, you have to be in favor or something, otherwise I consider that cowardice, but generally speaking some skepticism even when talking about people and things close to your political affiliation goes a long way

Don't be too of an extremist, specially considering already seen ways of old:

What's an example of an extreme leftist brutalizing a minority?

The Soviet Union happened, and while it wasn't fascism, Stalism did a lot of damage to eastern Europe overall

But that would be more a criticism of radicalism leading to authoritarianism in both cases tbh

Also come on guys, saying an ideology that is seen as left leaning did a lot of damage is not equal to saying is bad to advocate for things like a social democratic government or that we should look good at right leaning governments

It's recognizing bad shit happened and we need to learn from it

This is a vague and poor example.
Post automatically merged:

*incoming stalin and polpot examples*
Well dang, lol

This is a vague and poor example.

Two examples that come to mind:

- The deportation of and cultural genocide of Crimean Tatars

- The Polish repressions (which were basically direct orders to eliminate all Poles), which included straight up death sentences and executions. Also thought as a genocide

Both under orders of Joseph Stalin. The Soviet Union despite wanting to appear multi-cultural put a lot of effort in assimilating and ending with ethnic groups native of the land they had

Let me instead clarify. Please provide active examples.

As far as I know, most recent examples (including the Gaza genocide) seem to be relegated to the the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe. (That varies in ideology, some are remnants of the Soviet and some are more right leaning)

Maybe counting the deportations and oppressions in Ukraine done by Russia because of the war

But lets be fair, there hasn't been something as big and ideologically tuned as the Soviet Union in a long time.

It's one of the most notable examples with the already mentioned Pal Pot because that was a time where communism and socialism had a lot of power in authoritarian governments.

My criticism is about extreme radicalism being a door to authoritarism, and that is a trap both left and right can fall, the same way we saw it with Hitler, the same way we saw it with Stalin.

And by the way, I never talked about it being an active thing, I mentioned a conclusion from examples where this ideologies where at their hottest and biggest, which was during the 20th century

Did you just suggest the Israeli government is left leaning?
(That varies in ideology, some are remnants of the Soviet and some are more right leaning)

The examples I gave are not from only one side or another, because again, that was not my point. Extremism allowing stuff like that is

So can you provide an active, modern example of left wing extremism which abuses a minority group?

This is a simple yes or no question.

If your example is yes, please provide the example.

Key point is not to minimise the atrocities of the soviet union, but that needing to go that far while the far right gives daily atrocities is kind of meaningful, is it not.

Oh believe me I don't like MAGA or a lot of right leaning parties adjacent. I argue more in favor of being skeptical every so often than anything

I think currently the left is trying its best to keep implementing socialist theory into a democratic framework after the aftermath of the Soviets

With things like MAGA or the AfD or the party of Milei or the Israeli goverment, the mainstream right seems more and more radicalized in extremism tho, and it shows

I honestly would almost put them on their own group because their whole thing is fascinating to me if it wasn't slightly scary to see

Guess it's not a simple yes question. since he need to give you an example

Whatever example he gives, you'll just say its not left wing, or it's not extreme. Because those are subjective labels, you can exclude your way out of any example that's given.

Allow me to illustrate. Uyghers.

So what's your implication on their political leaning and why?
