Following on the heels of the Nintendo Switch firmware update for version 20.4.0 is a new update for Atmosphere CFW. SciresM has just released version 1.9.4, which adds support for the latest OFW, and even fixes a few minor bugs on top of that. As always, you can grab the latest version of Atmosphere from its official GitHub page, linked below.

The following was changed since the last release:

• Basic support was added for 20.4.0.
  • An issue was fixed in exosphère's register accessilibity tables (thanks @CTCaer).
    • I believe this had no impact on official code, though it would have prevented some homebrew from interacting correctly with the MC0/MC1 registers.
• An issue was fixed that could cause a deadlock when building multiple romfs images simultaneously (thanks @Ereza).
  • This fixes support for certain mods, e.g. system language translations overriding content for both overlayDisp and qlaunch.
• General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Atmosphere is custom Firmware/ OS for the Switch device itself. Each time a new firmware is released by Big N, Atmosphere needs to be updated to work with that update.

i ask because there are a couple games that require greater than 19.0.1 that would seem fun to be able to play.

Not all homebrews and modules are compatible with firmware 20 (partially or totally broken, some are also quite slow to boot up), there aren't a lot of themes designed for it and the "All software" menu is considerably slower when listing games.

Personally, I have no reason to update it as there are no games I'm interested in that require newer firmwares or can't be patched.

Lower master key​

encrypts the keak (key area key) with master key 0, this allows the game to be launched on every fw. implicitly performs standard crypto.


Do note that just because the game can be launched on any fw (as it can be decrypted), doesn't mean it will work. It is strongly recommened to update your firmware and Atmosphere version in order toplay the game, rather than enabling this option.


It is recommended to keep this disabled.
