Earlier today Sony announced that it has made the decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States starting tomorrow, August 21.

The updated recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. are as follows:
  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
These new recommended prices reflect an increase of $50 across the board for each console. As of now, the recommended retail prices for PS5 accessories remain unchanged.

Sony cites the "challenging economic environment" as the reason for the change.

Huh. There seems to be around 1k games included with JUST my PSN Plus sub, not counting the thousands of other games available for purchase. You must have accidently bought or looked at one of these instead of an actual PS5.

There’s actually only 18 exclusive games for the PS5, with a history of the PS5 not keeping them exclusive forever. I have a PC, I have no reason to buy a PS5

Oh no. Anyway...

We in the EU already pay more than the USofA even after this price increase there

Thanks Uncle Donnie! He really is a retard isn't he? How in the world did we elect such a moron that doesn't understand basic economics... twice?! My 12 year old nephew would do better at leading our nation than this fool.

Nah. He's not retarded. He just does not give a f**k about others. Its all about his ego and do what he wants to make him feel like a god king.

Blame the MAGA crowd and the ones who voted for him. Those are the real "retards".

In Europe they did, not for the US though. Genuinely surprised the US is getting a price bump instead of Sony raising prices in other regions again to cover for the US.
they can only increase the prices elsewhere so much before it becomes counterproductive and starts actually losing profits instead from nobody buying anymore

so the golden child getting the price increases eventually becomes the only option left

I don’t see any issue. I mean, food and gas is dirt cheap, so why would electronics be cheap to?

It’s nothing political, personal I believe business has a choice to charge from bottom up. If it’s paid, hold the price. If not, hmm.

Obviously some mistruth is in this to be realistic humor ha

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo be like, "Woah, we can jack up our prices in any region, and they'll just blame Trump and not us?!" I wonder what they'll raise next! My bet is NSO.
It's a globally connected economy. When one of the biggest consumer nations starts pretending it isn't a part of the rest of the world, that creates a butterfly effect. If the US goes into recession, a lot of other countries will sink with us as well.

Has nothing to do with policies & you would know that if you Liberals didn't lack common sense & an education.

Alright alright, next time I import a handheld from Japan and UPS tries charging me for the tariffs, I'll just tell them they're a bunch of dumb libs that lack common sense and education.

Sounds to me that a bunch of companies can jack up their prices, and some people will pit most of the blame on Trump. I expect a bunch of companies are going to start jacking up their prices. lmao

A year ago people were blaming Biden for prices.

Been going on for a good while now in the US. Increased prices, decreased product sizes. The companies will never explicitly "blame" Trump if they can avoid it, since he's the one who is 100% permissive of their predatory practices, but certainly it should be obvious to consumers who owns most of the blame.

This is the switch thread in case you have forgotten. Whenever people brings up the topic why Nintendo get more outrage than others, there will always be someone said that Sony and MS also got the same hate. Bullshit. Look at the thread side by side, one is all "FUCK Nintendo" and one is "Ok it's a tariff, understandable". Even the "angry" emote ratio is vastly different. Both are last gen consoles and price hike here is bigger here as well.

Has nothing to do with tariffs but you're to ignorant to understand that.

"You see, it's bad when Nintendo does it and not the other companies that do the same exact thing or even the same thing at some point down the line because... because.... BECAUSE IT'S BAD OKAY!"

That's basically the rationale for the hating the thing because it's hip to hate on it even when other things or companies that does the same thing they're even hating on, assuming they could actually say something that isn't one of the hundreds of common talking points.

Last edited by BlusterBong,
meanwhile dumbasses on the internet are saying the ps6 is going to be $500

when there's no way in hell sony is going to release the ps6 at $500 when the ps5 pro costs $750

It's hilarious because right now Nintendo is the only one NOT increasing the price of their current system, but apparently because they're only right now increasing the price of their previous console, somehow makes them worse than Microsoft and Sony on this matter who are increasing their current console prices. Herp derp, logic.

All of that is really beyond the real issue. When in the history of the Big 3 have they all increased the price of their consoles at the same time? I can only think of one time, right now. But I'm sure it's just a coincidence that we currently have a retard in office that doesn't understand basic economics and is increasing tariffs in an unprecedented way that this is all happening. No way that there is any connection there. Nuh uh.

this is EXACTLY what's going on

ALL of these price hikes were pre-determined a long time ago

they are just using tariffs as an excuse and a scapegoat to justify charging more for everything

this way:
nintendo can justify the $500 super nintendo switch (switch 2 is a stupid name)
microsoft can justify charging $800 for the upcoming handheld that doesn't even have access to your xbox games
sony can justify charging, most likely, $1,000 for the ps6
microsoft can justify, most likely like sony, charging the next gen xbox (not the handheld) a $1,000 as well

and that doesn't even begin to include all the game prices going up

Yeah this thought totally gels well with Nintendo only increasing the price of the Switch 1 and trying all they can to avoid increasing the price of the newly released Switch 2
