Earlier today Sony announced that it has made the decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States starting tomorrow, August 21.

The updated recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. are as follows:
  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
These new recommended prices reflect an increase of $50 across the board for each console. As of now, the recommended retail prices for PS5 accessories remain unchanged.

Sony cites the "challenging economic environment" as the reason for the change.

people just need to unite and let these companies raising prices die.

video game industry wont totally die. but if sony or nintendo fail who really cares. they are not nice to consumers and arent trying to just be a profitable company that makes games. they are stepping beyond their bounds imo.

people who support them are the same people who would fall into slavery again because they are weak people. i aint backtracking.

>Xbos Series X is $600, Digital Only Series X is $500, Series S is $380 and still fucking the Series X over because devs don't wanna optimize
>Playstation 5 is $550, PS5 Slim and digital only version is $500, PS5 pro is $750
>Even with the Switch 1 price hike, it's still cheaper at $340 and the OLED model is $400, Switch Lite is $230 and Switch 2 is still $450, once again making Nintendo the cheaper option of the big 3 dispute being the one with the most outrage with the initial price reveal

Imagine if all of these price hikes from Sony and especially MS for thier consoles (that have no games) ends up making the Switch 2 look budget friendly in comparison, that would be fucking embarrassing, especially since well... The Series S isn't exactly carrying the total sales given that Microsoft groups both when they tell us how many Xbox Series consoles they have sold

I'd still say it would be smarter to always buy base consoles, going pro consoles is PC price territories and doesn't make much sense. I only kind of get it if you already have a beast of a PC but even then I'd say a pro model isn't worth it because you already have a beast of a pc. lol

Okay. I changed my mind. I'm allowed. LOL! I just ordered a PS5 Pro because my card offered me 16% back in rewards if purchased from Walmart, which is basically $112 off the price. Plus I'll be selling my og disc version PS5 and still sealed official Marvel's Spider-Man 2 face plates to help eat the rest of the cost. Now my next PS console won't be until the inevitable PS6 Pro.
