As a result of "market conditions", Nintendo has decided to increase the price of a number of products. Starting August 3rd, all original Nintendo Switch models (including the OLED and Lite) will see a price hike, in addition to the Alarmo, amiibo, and other Switch and Switch 2 accessories. The Nintendo Switch 2 and its games will not see any price changes, at this time, though Nintendo does state that price adjustments to those items might still happen in the future. Nintendo did not specify what the new prices will be in the United States--at the time of writing, a Switch OLED Edition retails for $349.99, a Lite retails for $199.99, and the original Switch model is priced at $299.99.

[UPDATE] American retailer Target has already changed the prices of the Nintendo Switch units on its website, ahead of the date Nintendo specified. Currently, the original Switch has an MSRP of $339.99, the OLED is $399.99, and the Lite is $229.99.

So let me get this right. Switch 2 comes out june 5 2025, $449.99
Switch 1 march 3, 2017 $299.99
Switch lite $199.99
Switch oled $349.99

Of course I see they need to promote the "improvements" of the switch 2 console so higher price make sense. (Even though $449.99 is probably the highest nintendo ever went) But instead of LOWERING the prices of the other already aging systems so the switch 2 can be cheaper (maybe $399.99 or $349.99 like it is domestically in japan)

They INCREASE the OLDER ones like some rare commodity even though with all ONE HUNDRED MILLION PLUS copies sold, people still want to buy more.

am I dumb to think if they lower the price of the old systems to sell excessive stock, they could also lower the switch 2 price and start selling more of them? Or do they believe they can sell both at the same time.

Seems to me the people who run nintendo now, just want money more now than ever before. Not people who feels personally attached to the products the company puts out or the fans & consumers that just want a chance to engage with them.

As far as I know, yes, and it's an indicator that the era when I liked consoles over PC for affordability is at an end. I'm probably not going to be springing for a PS6 when the time comes (will probably be $600 - $700 for a base model minimum) and will just go full PCMR. Higher upfront cost, but lower cost for games and no subscriptions required to play online.
