Why are 3DS's so expensive?

Still trying to sort out how to get over the max 40 .nds (via forwarder) install limit
You don't. Just load up your games from TWiLight Menu. Forwarders can cause problems anyway. (Besides, if you're running into that limit, odds are you've already installed at least a few things you're probably not going to play more than once, if at all.)

EDIT: Corrected, see below.

I was surprised to find Ni no Kuni had a fan translation, all the way back to 2018
I was surprised to learn that there were some serious problems with the 2018 version that no one had really tried to correct.

Trust me, I have about 100 something titles installed on my 3DS and I dont hardly play half of them.

Correction: YANBF is explicitly intended to circumvent that restriction. (But you'll still run into the 300-title limit, and some games still apparently run better under TWiLight Menu anyway.)

But this is getting off-topic.

If you somehow get more than 300 titles, you can use 3DSbank also. But we got to stay on topic.

In my country a used 3ds (new or not) about 120-180 eur. 3-4 years ago I can't sell my 3ds (modded, 64gb sd) more than 80 eur, because nobody need it. PS Vita cost even more... I couldn't sell my old PS Vita (slim modded with sd2vita) for more than 7 months because no one needed it. Finally I sell it for 70 eur. Nowadays its 200eur+... My problem is not that I couldn't sell it for a good price then, but that everything is very expensive now.

I have a Switch Lite with picofly, I can't sell it. I'm advertising it for 130 euros and no one is bidding on it. An unmodified second-hand one is over 150 euros in my country, so I'd sell it even cheaper than the average not modified one...

It's not just the N3DSXL, all the 3DS models are pretty pricey from what I've observed.
Also, the DSI is the least valued? I thought it would be more sought after since the models use IPS panels instead of the TN panels the other DS's use.

Short answer: Nothing on the market ever replaced it.

The Switch is cool, but it's not pocketable, it doesn't have the exclusive apps/functions, hardware durability, Virtual Console, free online, third-party/indie exclusive games. 3DS just hit different.

I never stopped playing mine, and I'm not even CLOSE to running out of new games to get. The standard was just a completely different level compared to today, and a lot of people are realizing it.

I think prices are only going to keep going up too, especially as Joy Con 1 really hits its expiration date. So I would get one soon tbh.

There are too many 3ds systems out there for the system to cost that much. It's not like there is a shortage of them.

Yes and no. There's not a shortage of 3DS systems in existence, but there IS a shortage of 3DS systems that people want to sell.

The problem is that nothing ever replaced it. Nothing else plays these games even half well. So if you sell it, it means you will never play Pokemon X, Link Between Worlds, Yokai Watch, Star Fox 3D, Etrian Odyssey, Fire Emblem Awakening, Professor Layton, or whatever else you have, ever again. You are giving up those games forever.

I have a n3ds and a n3ds XL so that way if I want to play a game with someone over my house (like CTGP) we can. Mostly I’m using it for co-playing emulated titles with my partner. It’s nicer than one person dominating the television especially when it’s just an old snes or PlayStation game.

it sold well, has millions around the earth, but its 3d technology is not replicable anywhere (yet) in emulators. so people who have it, hold it tight. i supose.
