Nintendo Switch firmware 20.2.0 released

1752542221250.png

A new Nintendo Switch firmware is available. So far seems no new keys are generated, and FW 20.0.0 Keys decompress the 20.2.0 firmware; sigpatches will need an update, SYS-Patch should work fine. So far the only app affected is NXThemeInstaller which needs new patches. Bootlogos nor PNGShot are affected.

Ver. 20.2.0 (Released July 14, 2025)

  • Fixed an issue where Parental Control settings were not transferred from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 in certain circumstances during a system transfer.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Can we get more stable?
So stable. Oh oh oh.... oh oh oh oh....
It's so stable you can run Switch 2 edition on it.

Latest Atmosphere still work of this new firmware?
I heard there's a "don't talk to strangers" check — cry and reboot if an unknown HOS shows up. Don't follow them home.

Just make sure to tell your kid it's Uncle N, so they know it's okay — no need to reboot.

Today is the day I have decided to load CFW for the first time on my switch, followed a guide, downloaded the latest firmware and boom. No, atmosphere currently doesn't work with the newest switch firmware. Or maybe I'm just too new and did something wrong. Basically everything works up until I launch atmosphere for the first time when I'm greeted with a black screen, afterwards not even hekate launches through RCM as it also goes directly to a black screen once the bar fills up.

Same. Waiting for whatever version Metroid Prime 4 needs, then I'm done updating my hacked Switch's firmware.
You can also play Metroid 4 on switch 1 in the mean time, it won't be that ugly and slow compared to switch 2 I think and it will give you a good reason to replay it later at least...

That's what I'm waiting to do once it's released, unless you mean something other than Metroid Prime 4. I have no plans to ever get a Switch 2.

I'm waiting for new Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi and Fading Afternoon myself. I hope that lowering master key and system version while installing them in sphaira (if they'll require higher fw) will help. If not, I'll just play them on original fw. Metroid 4 will for sure require 20+.

I'm also just tired of updating things, this is a handheld for games. Sys-tweak that I'm using doesn't even work on 20+, so that's one of the reasons that I'm behind, and the amount of free RAM.

What malware did you add?😡
I have not added any malware to the build, only the “hbl.nsp” in version 2.4.5 and the "hbmenu.nro" in version 3.6.0. The sigpatches continue to work under this build and FW version 20.2.0. The only problem could be incompatible sysModules.

I'm sure every dual update going forward is to brick Switch CFW, not sure why anyone would even update, even the updates for old games, is just them finding a way to make the games not compatible with CFW!
They just did the Mario Bundle update and that game isn't even purchasable anymore.

Same here. I updated to a Steam Deck a few months ago and it's SUCH a better experience. I haven't used my Switch since. I wish I'd gotten one around Nov. 2023 when they got a price drop, but better late than never. I COULD run Switch exclusive games on it, but I'd rather save the space and just use original hardware to play them.

Patches for this release
I'm having issues getting this to work if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction please?

I use Hekate (package3) to boot into Atmosphere so I use sigpatches still. I used Hekate to boot into Stock and updated stock normally via Nintendo. I have the latest version of Hekate, the AMS build linked above, and the patches you just linked here. Hekate boots normally, but when I try to boot Stock it just briefly goes to the Nintendo logo then goes black. Hekate says HOS is '20.0.0+' - I'm assuming Nintendo updated my Stock to 20.2.0.

My hekate_ipl.ini is set up correctly, I'm pretty sure:
Code:
[config]
autoboot=0
autoboot_list=0
bootwait=3
backlight=100
autohosoff=0
autonogc=1
updater2p=0
bootprotect=0
{-------- Stock ---------}
[Stock SYS]
fss0=atmosphere/package3
stock=1
emummc_force_disable=1
icon=bootloader/res/stock_boot.bmp

The 'Atmosphere\contents' folder has been deleted.

Any idea where I'm going wrong? Thanks for all you do!

EDIT: I have EmuMMC set up and that one is still on FW 19 and is still working perfectly. I wanted to update Stock because I want to transfer some save files from my Switch 1 to my Switch 2 for games I only play on Stock.

Code:
[config]
démarrage automatique=0
autoboot_list=0
bootwait=3
rétroéclairage = 100
autohosoff=0
autonogc=1
updater2p=0
bootprotect=0
{-------- Action ---------}
[Stock SYS]
fss0=atmosphère/paquet3
stock=1
emummc_force_disable=1
icône=bootloader/res/stock_boot.bmp

INI:
[CFW - AtmosphereNX (V2)]
pkg3=atmosphere/package3
pkg3ex=1
emummcforce=1
atmosphere=1
icon=bootloader/res/icon_payload.bmp
nouserexceptions=1
userpmu=1
cal0blank=1
usb3force=1

[Non Hack (OFW)]
pkg3=atmosphere/package3
stock=1
emummc_force_disable=1

Even though it's not yet mandatory, I strongly recommend switching to a pkg3 configuration

One of my friends asks if the update breaks Atmosphere or not... I have no need for piracy (piracy stinks) so this update doesn't bother me.
That old hat “my friend” line. It didn’t wash then and still doesn’t now.
