So like, a few days ago, an eighteen-year-old boy named James Wesley Burger made some threats while playing this wacky popular online game called Roblox, leading to investigations that uncovered more ominous activity about his desire to commit an ISIS-inspired terror attack against a Christian music concert.
The user, "Crazz3pain" had expressed desires to “kill Shia Muslims at their mosque” and commit martyrdom at a Christian-affiliated concert, back in January 21 of this year, as claimed by a witness who reported him to law enforcement after he saw James making threats by using Roblox’s in-game chat feature.
More investigations revealed James discussing about wanting to attain martyrdom and “deal a grevious wound upon the followers of the Cross” as well as his google search history showing stuff like, "Lone wolf terrorists isis,” “are suicide attacks haram in islam,” “ginger isis member,” and “Festivals happening near me.”
James was soon taken into interrogation once the FBI found out that his email was used to create the Crazz3pain account, and the cookie data from his phone matched the timing of the threats.
During questioning, Burger admitted that he owned the Roblox account and had made similar threats online. He told the agents that his comments were mostly emotional reactions at the time but acknowledged that his goals included harming Christians and attempting on seeking martyrdom—living under God's laws or dying trying. He said he wanted to leave the U.S. and, if not, be willing to die for his cause.
“[A]t the time it was mostly a heightened emotional response… but it certainly doesn’t take away from the fact that you know that [] is . . . the concept of what would have occurred . . . the deaths of, of Christians . . . that’s not something that’s going . . . be shunned or, or shied away from . . . the details definitely . . . became exaggerated which . . . the end, end goal it’s still the same . . . it hasn’t shifted a bit. . . . [T]o obey and… submit and live under the banner and laws of God or . . . to literally die trying. . . . So that’s the end goal. … [G]et the hell out of the US and... if I can’t... . then, martyrdom or bust.”
When asked about his intentions behind the threats, James reportedly said they aimed to cause terror and somewhat agreed that his actions fit the definition of terrorism.
“[T]he intention . . . and the action is something that is meant to or will cause terror. . . . I cannot agree with the term terrorist, you know, I definitely agree that it serves the same means that a terrorist would be seeking.” Asked whether he was a terrorist, James said: “I mean, yeah, yeah. By, by the sense and . . . by my very own definition, yes, I guess, you know, I would be a terrorist.”
