I am not white nor a leftist so I just find this hilarious, but I'm curious what do actual white leftists on this site think about this? Agree or disagree? Would you still vote for Mamdani if you lived in NY?

Yes, the rich should pay their fair share. And it is entirely accurate to say that the richer a neighborhood is the more the demography skews exclusively towards white people.

He also proposes his wealth tax only starts at an annual income of 1 million USD. So just like there the regular worker of any ethnicity, white or otherwise, will not be affected. Almost no "white socialist" lives in those rich neighborhoods , I can guarantee you that.

To which I say, yeah, we should do that. Having lived in a city that has a super white and rich town in the middle of it, I saw firsthand the damage they caused. This little "neighborhood" was the size of a town, has their own ID system, police detparement, townhall, and so on. They even have their own tax code that effectively makes them pay next to nothing in taxes. As a result, the city around this "neighborhood" is gaining nothing from it, while those who live in it benift from the resources of the city. That's fucked up and shouldn't be allowed.

Of course, I know the only reason why losers are only focusing on the "whiter" part is because they are desperately trying to pretend to be oppressed. Reality is, I highly doubt any of us are part of that tax bracet for any of these laws to actually affect us. Let's not pretend even a fraction of this site is close to the 12%.

I agree that richer neighborhoods should pay more taxes but the fact that he specifically mentioned "whiter" is what the problem is. Divisive and unnecessary and would not be tolerated if you replaced "whiter" with any other group. I don't understand why people can't see that is inappropriate and divisive. There are plenty of black or hispanic neighborhoods that are relatively richer than other neighborhoods, but are still far from the wealth of what qualifies as a rich white person. Thus it is important to be accurate.

Also, neither the white flight nor wealth flight will be noteworthy, businesses are more important and the rich will want to have a place in one of the most important big business places on earth. Most white people are also not rich enough to be affected by those changes, so why would they want to go somewhere else?

I agree this is probably the most likely scenario, which is why socialists usually target legislature and congress first before implementing wide system reforms.

It's not racist, in the same way that affirmative action is not racist. If you'd actually read what he wrote he mentions lowering taxes on low income areas and removing the maximum cap everywhere else. Which will impact rich white neighborhoods almost exclusively.

Also rich white people aren't socialist, otherwise they wouldn't be rich. Workers don't become rich by doing honest work, and they especially won't earn over a million annually or live in expensive neighborhoods in NYC.

Also the dig at per capita is fascinating, because it's completely irrelevant since the human population doesn't matter, the total amount of business moving through NYC's largest businesses matters. They're a service city, not a manufacturing city, thus per capita is meaningless since most of it is outsourced anyway.
