Animal Crossing for the GameCube has been decompiled

Another monumental fan effort has been achieved. The team behind the Animal Crossing decompilation have reached 100% progress on recreating the game's code. This isn't a full 100%, as noted by project creator Cuyler, who states that there's still work left to do, but it means Animal Crossing for the GameCube can be modded fully, and soon ported to other platforms, once released. Additionally, the same team has been working on backporting and translating content from the Japanese-exclusive Dobutsu no Mori e+ into a project called Animal Crossing Deluxe.

It's my pleasure to announce that as of <t:1750082820:R>, Animal Crossing's [decompilation](https://github.com/ACreTeam/ac-decomp) hit 100% matching and linked game code. While not fully 100%, the way the game is set up means that we can fully mod the game. There's still some work to do on supporting libraries like the GameCube SDK, among others. However, this does not impact modding. **HUGE** shoutout to everyone who contributed and supported the project along the way! This has been 2.5 years in the making! I'll have a more fitting announcement when we hit complete 100% in the future!

Awesome! I've always had ideas for mods I'd like to try making for this game but couldn't grasp doing it in assembly. Can't wait to see what people do with this!

I'm a bit puzzled by that 100% not quite 100% mathematical meaning.
From the official discord in a separate announcement:

Is the game FULLY decompiled?

No. The game code is fully decompiled. Animal Crossing GameCube has a lot of libraries that are necessary for functioning on the GameCube, but are not directly related to the game itself. These libraries are shared between many other games and can be brought over with far less effort. 100% game code allows for modding. It would even allow for a PC port IF someone wanted to write their own libraries. We have completely matched all code that deals with game-play in Animal Crossing.

Still waiting for the N64 WWF/WCW games to get decompiled, so we can have modern day WWF No Mercy Or WCW NWO Revenge/WWF WrestleMania 2000/WWF No Mercy combined.

Modern day HCTP would also be cool.

Holy shit...I have so many memories with this game but honestly I'm kinda surprised?

ig I've just always seen talk abt the later ones and it's pretty rare that I even hear people mention the original so it's kinda shocking considering the work involved. Just knowing that there was interest makes me happy, this one's always been my favorite.

I've only ever played two Animal Crossing titles - this' not one of them -
but I like this art style! A lot!
I just wish Animal Crossing would do an isometric version next

I backlog gamed New Leaf (Only after the servers had closed).
It was also my first Animal Crossing - I went through it blind ...got far into it and then I couldn't figure out if I could still become a barrista (too far into the game? Brewster offered me a job, but I was mashing the 'b' button ...dialogue to coffee making behind the counter never came up again)

....so I moved to New Horizon (Offline/I dont have Nintendo Subscription) only to find out they took off the option of becoming a barrista. !!!
(WHY? Why remove cute/lively content?), and instead, it seemed they focused on items I mostly found boring in design. Lack of experimental/comedic items.
I loved the gyroids for the musical content it brings, I just wish they nerded out on being able to make melodies for each gyroid
(If anyone has played Sky - Children of Light, with the playable music instruments, I found that super memorable. Online players literally having jam sessions).
I've found my experience with NH too materialist focused...it gave me Temu vibes. All flash with little life ...K.K. Slider came in and brought a little life, but everything else was ...not memorable.
(Kinda wish Animal Crossing stock holders would allow/fund an experimental team)

//rant. sorry

What about the n64 DD? What about E+ what about all the other versions?

It's nice news, I guess, but has anything new and exciting emerged from any of these recent decompilations, aside from SM64 and Zelda: OoT/Majora's Mask?

Not to disparage the hard work of the people involved, but I'm starting to think that maybe these decompilations are not as easy to work with as initially anticipated.
I feel the same way, on all these decomp news stories its just filled with people asking/hoping someone else does a certain mod or a certain port and never a single person who has the actual initiative to do said thing with the decomp available. Like its nice to see the decomp finished... but theres really no one who wants to get their hands dirty and actually do stuff with it :whip:

It feels like free clicks for games journalists and YouTubers

It's all relative. These codebases are easier to work with and end up more performant when compared to an emulator. When porting, you still need to know the quirks of your target system (Looking at you, PSVita...)

So this means... Aninal Crossing PC Port?
Theoretically, yes.

But not many of the decompilations we've had have led to pc ports.
For example the pokemon gb / gba games - pretty sure there's no (public) pc port.
Mario 64 and Zelda 64 we do have them.
