Okay so I first Luma homebrewed my 3DS XL wit512Gb microSD everything worked, but I came to the conclusion that size card was a bit overkill in excess size, so I'm now attempting to migrate over to a 256Gb microSD, but I copy everything over and boot up the 3DS XL and it says SD Card not detected.

Am I missing a step, or do I have to rehomebrew everything all over again?

Check if your SD-card is formatted as FAT32, if not: do so :)
It is i knew to do that. I used minitools partition wizard as gui format wants to be pain opening.

I guess I’ll have to start from scratch i got curious and MSet9 said not detected

Nothing on it as i moved eerything from it to my pc then over to the new 256gb card

Now i’m backing that up again before I just completely reformat it and start all over

Copying everything back over to the 512gb then since I saw Ps1 plays okay'ish on the RetroArch 3DSX version copying 72gb of PsX/1 chd files to it to see if it'll work normally then if it does I'll go back to troubleshooting the 256gb

I see that I still do have Rosa menu and Luma

Oddly enough when I homebrewed it Friday it would go up to the latest 11.17.0-50 update it kept failing and giving mer an error then this morning it finally successfully updated

I didn’t start from scratch as the keyword migrating indicated! I also asked do i need to start over and flash everything over again.

If you couldn’t figure it out by now i did homebrew install the 512gb micros card, fully an successfully working

Furthermore being an individual i am allowed the freedom to ale and creative whatever relevant title I wish so long as it relates that’s besides the point of discussion and this isn’t a creative writing forum. LoL

.

could you two get back on track? how did you "migrate"? did you just copy all the files? try wiping the card (AFTER BACKING UP THE DATA OF COURSE) and use h2testw. there should be an easy to find download. let me know the status of the card. and what OS do you use? there are a lot of factors in this

Keep on topic or get a room.

Yes but the forum rules literally state:

Please make the topic title you are creating descriptive, clearly reflecting the topic you are addressing. Do not make generic titles such as "Question", "I need help", or in full capitals, with an obscene amount of periods, exclamation marks, question marks, etc.

Make the title more descriptive next time.

Now keep on topic please.

that was the second thing i tried with the 256gb card when i saw it wasn’t detected so i opened minitools partition wizard moved the content back over to my pc reformatted the card to fat32 with 32kb allocation cluster and moved everything over again to the card snd it still said said card not detected then i moved everything to my pc again and moved them back to the 512gb haven’t gotten home to see if its still working properly yet

Using windows 11 guiformat doesn’t wanna open but minitools partition wizard gives you the option set the allocated cluster

The 256gb card was working in a Anbernic rg35xxsp

When I had a PC (Win 7), GUIFormat was my goto for FAT32. But now, my 2DS LL is my goto for formatting cards (particularly because as it lets you set the Volume Label as the PS Classic exploit needs 'SONY')... Boot into GM9 (Hold Start) -> Home Button -> More -> SD Format Menu -> No EmuNAND -> 64KB (for large cards generally).

Two things...

First, the biggest compatible SD card size is 128 GB, anything bigger "can" work but you will run into issues such as themes not working and potentially VC games not running.

Second, 3DS is weird, unlike most systems from Wii to WiiU to Switch (even to PS Vita sort of) if you format your SD properly and copy everything correctly it should work, 3DS is a bit of a pain though, I'm not 100% sure why but it seems to only work when it feels like it, from my testing it seems I get the best results using the recommended Panasonic SD Formatter (even though I have better formtting tools they don't seem to like the 3DS very much) and basically following Nintendo's guide step by step even by "dragging all your files to the desktop and back to the new SD" I HAVE managed to get it to work using other tools and methods but like I said it's kind of picky so following Nintendo's guide seems to magically increase your success rate.

So the 512gb still works and is detected although nothing shows up, it just lands right on the system settings icon, guess maybe I need to do that over again starting from there idk.

I;m half tempted to just start fresh from scratch and do a system format memory, see how my luck goes...

But yea the Wii and Wii U were both super easy and impossible to mess, if ya knew what the wrong files and folders were that would muck something up you could just go back in explorer and remove them and back up and running normally again

if nothing works then yeah, just start over. i wouldn't have downgraded cards anyway but that seems to be the best way

Back up and running on the 512gb and used this video tutorial again partially halfway through from the beginning same video I used when I first homebrewed it

I guess to play it safe when I have some spare change I'll grab a faster higher speed 256gb microsd and start all over or just force format that to fat32 with 32kb allocated cluster size and try again

that much space?! buddy youre gonna fill it up sooner or later

Probably so I just realized the Ps1/X rom's weren't added to the rom's folder, so adding them back again, seen a video talking about most play decently in the 3dsx vhomebrew launcher version of retroarch, after adding all those I'm using 228Gb and have 249Gb free

With the 512gb it takes around 30 seconds to fully boot up
