I recently bought a real GameCube controller second hand. However, when I plugged it into my Wii on port 1, it only works in specific applications.

I can't use it to navigate the Homebrew Channel, but I can use it in Nintendont and the GameCube BIOS. When I play Mario Kart Double Dash, it stops working. When I play Super Monkey Ball, it suddenly works fine.

I even ran it through a homebrew controller tester and it showed the controller was working fine.

I've never seen this issue before, maybe something on my Wii is screwed up, any suggestions?

This is going to sound stupid but did you try unplugging it and replugging it when MKDD failed to recognize the controller? It might be a hardware issue with the connector

This might seem like common knowledge but all controllers need to be supported by the thing yo want. If it is not supported it wont work. HIgh chance its just not supported.

Well Mario Kart Double Dash is a GameCube game, so one would assume it's compatible with a GameCube controller.

Personally I'd double check the ports are clean on both the Wii and the controller side, and then try again. It could have just been a fluke from some dust on either side of the connection.

Yeah, if either the controller or the ports on the Wii haven't been used in a while, they could have accumulated some dust etc making the connection flaky.

One more thing I'd try just in case -- configuring Nintendont to use native controls, to see if it makes any difference whatsoever in the games (both Monkey Ball and Double Dash which were already mentioned, for example). Also, how long were the games played for @MaxiBash ? Like, in Double Dash would you say the controller stopped working after a few seconds, or after some minutes, or what?
