This might be a stupid question, but I want to know if its possible. Soldering is just having metal connect the two other pieces of metal, So I was thinking if I could have a small piece of metal, and tape it down. If the taped down metal connects both spots securely would it work? Sorry again if this is a stupid question, but I cant buy a Unpatched switch and I have no soldering skills whatsoever

Not possible here sorry.
With bigger, simpler circuits sure, you can just twist wires together, but that's not possible here, it's too small and too delicate, it has to be done "properly".
Lets say I had a wire. I used scissors on the outside to peel the "skin" of the wire off. If I was able to wrap all the little tin pieces of metal around the connectors without touching another one to prevent shorting and taped it down very securely would it be possible?

I'm not going to say it's 100% impossible, it just wouldn't be dependable, and to do it so it worked would be more difficult that soldering.

Of course you can try out the experimental solutions (I recommend with other things first, not your switch :D), it's good to test and learn - but soldering exists for a reason, it's basically fusing metal together.
Pressing contacts together with tape isn't dependable.

Maybe? I doubt that it'll work for a long time, though, and you may end up damaging your console in the process. You have three options:
  1. Have someone else install a modchip for you.
  2. Sell your Switch and buy the unpatched model.
  3. Buy MIG Switch flashcart - very limited (no CFW, only cartridge "emulation" of sorts) and has a high risk of getting your console banned if used for piracy.

Alright one more thing. Lets say it worked, and I got tinfoil and homebrew and all the basic stuff. If I install .xci onto my switch, then remove the mod chip, will is still work?

Or if I install custom bacxkgrounds, and Will I still keep apps like tinfoil

At the very best until your console turns off, crashes or reboots. When updating firmware, you need to reboot. When updating sys-patch, you need to reboot. Game crashes? Reboot. Random stuff? Reboot. If it was easy to maintain such a system, you'd see tutorials and stuff all over the place. It's not good practice for more than a handful of reasons. Pay someone to install a modchip for you or get yourself an unpatched v1 Switch.

Not sure about "custom backgrounds", but if you install Tinfoil to your sysNAND and reboot, it should stay but it won't work without sigpatches and, if you connect to the Internet (and Nintendo servers), congratulations - you just banned your console. Seriously, get someone to install a modchip for you unless you'd like to have an expensive paperweight on your hands.

If you "unhack" your switch you won't be able to load cfw anymore, and so you won't have the signature patches applied that hacks the system to allow for the custom content you installed - so no it won't work.
I think the app will still show up in your home menu, but you won't be able to open it.

As for custom backgrounds, I'm not sure. Things like custom profile icons I guess would still work but I'm not sure about backgrounds.

If you want to see what the modchip install process looks like, here's a video.
It's not a simple thing at all (honestly, I failed the first time I did it :D)
You need to do it the proper way, and practice a lot before hand.

Yeah, im very nervous about trying it myself because I already broke a switch before soldering it. When I opened up the back of it I have no clue what happened but the wire connecting the motherboard to the screen overheated and burned, so I had a gray display and I fucked it up even more trying to solder it

The «tape joint» connections is not reliable and introduce inductance on the circuit, the mod is heavely affected by inductance.

so NO, YOU SHOULD NOT. take the console to any good phone repair shop they have the knowledge and expertise to install the modchip.

Unlikely. I did an unpatched v1's modchip and 3 points were really small. Like it would be annoying to try and put them under electric tape. Imagine if it's the kind that is for patched and later. Either get an unpatched switch, find someone that can do it for you, buy a pre-hacked switch or learn to solder.

Soldering is easy to learn you just need to start with a pretty good iron tbh. Like shit irons literally make everything harder.

Wow, seeing that video, that looks damn easy, lmao! If my Switch wasn't V1, I'd easily buy a 10 dollar modchip kit from Aliexpress, and mod my Switch. I didn't realize it was THAT easy. I didn't do much research on it though, as I never needed a Switch modchip.

YOU CAN INSTALL AN INTERNAL PAYLOAD INJECTOR SEARCH FOR SMD21

Keep in mind he has lots of experience doing it. An experienced person will make difficult tasks look easy because they've already learned from their failures. That said, a V2 is relatively easy if you have the proper tools and a steady hand. OLED is more difficult having to cut and scrape away material to get to the needed points.

Believe it or not, even if it was possible to do the mod that way and get it to work reliably, it would be much harder than soldering, not easier.

You could build the frame of a bike by gluing the tubes together and tying them really tight with very strong rope instead of welding them. Doesn't mean it's a sensible way to do it.
