sys-tune update
An unofficial update to the original sys-tune mod. This adds the following features:
- Playlists are now saved across console restarts
- An option for the music to auto-start when the console boots
- Whitelist mode, which means the music will ONLY play for specific title IDs
- An option to set the current title id to the whitelist without manually editing the file

Source
https://github.com/TheReconJacob/sys-tune/releases/tag/v3.0.0

Installation

1. Download the release zip from here
2. Extract the zip to the root of your sd card.
3. Put mp3/flac or wav files to your sd card.

Disclaimer
I have never done Switch modding before. But have a professional developer background. I was eventually able to figure out how the project is built through some trial and error, and modify the code with the new features. Due to my lack of experience, please assume that there might be some new bugs introduced.

A bit of feedback based on my experience. I have to ask though: Do I have to delete the previous version of sys-tune and then add the new version? Because I dragged and replaced, so maybe some of these issues are related to that

1. The shuffle feature doesn't seem to work. It always plays the playlist songs in order added
2. Adding a big bunch of songs (the smallest that I added with this problem was 18) both freezes the console and disconnects the joycons for a bit. Granted, they were 3rd party joycons so that might have something to do with it, but it's still worth mentioning.
3. For some reason, I can't get the music to start playing again after closing a game. Usually, it supposed to stop on entering a game and resume once closing the game, but with this version it stops and I have to manually start it up again

I'd be happy if it didn't have the exact name so I don't get the support tickets when people download this from somewhere else
Would it be acceptable for me to rename the repo to "sys-tune unofficial" so it's clear that it's not an official release? Feels wrong to rename it something completely new when I'm building off of your work.

Are these all issues that are exclusive to this version I've made? Or do these issues also occur with the official version?

I had this idea for a while, but would it be possible to add music that plays only on the switch menu ? to create smtg like menu music as in previous nintendo consoles, and the same thing for eshop and settings

Thank you for the update btw <3

I would also like to have a BGM for the main menu.

I like the general MP3 player idea too but i really would love to have the music start as the menu fades in and end when game is selected. Like the Wii. I would also like a noise when the switch logo pops, i don't know if it's possible.. my logo is my cat so I use her meow. I accomplished this with a mp3 with gaps of silence but its clunky. IIRC the meow and gap happen when you go back to the main switch menu.. or did it not play at all.. I don't recall. Been so long. Also i can't recall but a loop function would be nice if it's not there to loop a small MP3.

This is great that you're improving this. It has great potential. Wish i could run Spotify in the background like the xbox. Oh well

Too bad the only programming i know is for Unity, but here is the idea i have if anyone can do it and improve it :

A music file with a specific name at a specific location get played only on the Main menu, i say specificlocation so that themes can use this function to include their own music file. therfore you dont need to manually change it.
if it's possible then detecting applets and running their own music files too would be a good addition

This is already possible with the whitelist mode feature. You need to tick "Whitelist mode", and then click the second checkbox "Whitelist current title" (or something like that) for each place you want to play the music exclusively for

Your best best is to customise and modify an MP3 file in an editing software. The music starts as soon as the switch logo pops up, and unfortunately I think it has the same title id as the menu, so you'll need to time the duration of the logo so that the startup sound plays for that length of time before transitioning into the music. Unfortunately that'll appear again when the track loops

Yeah it works but it's a manual task, and music and dosen't play automatically after leaving a game
Just thought it would be really cool to have an alternative version that only handles the main menu music
Thank you for this update though !

up. i agree. it would be cool if there's a separate playlist on main menu and automatically plays again after exiting a game.

Apologies for the late reply. I have basically no free time but if I have time to work on this, I will try to fix it

Weird that it doesn't seem to play automatically after leaving a game as it seems to do that for me. To clarify, if you close the game fully, does the music start playing again? I believe it doesn't play if you go to the home menu but a game is still running. You have to close the game fully for the music to start playing, I think because it will register another title id still if that game isn't fully closed. There might be a way around it, but I do remember there being an issue where sys-music crashes (before my update) while a game is open, the whitelist feature basically stopped that from happening on my end. If that doesn't happen for other people, I will have to see if there is a way for it to keep playing while an app is suspended but not closed, but still close correctly when it goes back into the game.

Quite unstable so far. The whitelist mode doesnt really work as what you described.
I have it turned on, but the music will not play at the home menu. i always have to manually play it myself.
When i start a game, it does stop playing, and after ending the game fully, the music still will not resume, have to manually play it again.

And sometimes after awhile, the music will forever be playing whether i open or close a game, its like the whitelist no longer works.

I also noticed there is a blacklist file generated in config/ folder, not sure if that somehow conflicts with your whitelist.

There should be two checkboxes, one for the whitelist mode being enabled itself, and another for ticking the checkbox on the current page you are at. The checkbox should be unticked automatically for any page you haven't already ticked it for. If both checkboxes aren't enabled for the page you are on, it won't work. Do you still have issues after doing this? I've just been using the switch casually without touching the repo yet and not had problems so far.

Just fyi... Can confirm I'm getting the same issue when closing a game, the music has to be manually restarted or if I put it to sleep and then wake again the music restarts itself.

Both whitelist options are checked as well as autoplay on boot 👍
