Switch OLED Won't Boot and Won't Connect to PC

Just picked up an OLED switch and it won't boot past the "Could not start the software" screen. If you click ok, it just boot loops and goes back to the same screen.

It does charge, as when I bought it, it was completely dead. Holding down the power button, with or without any other combination of top buttons does nothing.

I've tried to connect it to the computer, but my PC doesn't recognize it at all.

I tried to check the warranty status on Nintendo's site, but it's coming up as saying:
Warranty Status
Unfortunately, we were not able to determine the warranty status of your product.

I fear it may be a Kiosk unit. It seems to be in decent condition overall. Just looking for some guidance as to what my next steps should be.

The volume buttons might have water damage.
Get those fixed first in order to see if you can get into the maintenance mode ( vol + and -)

Oh fun, that doesn't offer any clues. As noted the best bet is to try and get it into maintenance mode (hold both volume buttons when you power on and continue to hold until maintenance mode or the error shows up.

I've held every combination of buttons down for well over a minute and none of them seem to respond to anything. The only thing that gets the switch to boot is plugging it in. Are the buttons just damaged or is this an indicator that this could be a kiosk/demo unit?

it is possible that the buttons are just not working. I had an ebay switch with a failed volume up button. Couldn't get it into RCM or maintenance mode because of it. I was tipped off to it only after I got it to boot tegra explorer. Only way to know is disassembly and testing of the physical buttons.

I also find it odd that connecting it to the PC doesn't do anything. Should the computer be able to recognize it or since it can't boot up properly, the PC is not seeing it?

Unknown and irrelevant. Connecting to a PC is only meaningful in determining signs of life from a seemingly lifeless Switch (RCM mode) or perhaps USB functionality. Since you know the unit is alive and charging you only know that USB is not connecting but that could be a hardware or software issue.
