So you either accept your fate and use virtual gamecards or you WILL need to connect to the internet

I don't see how this is any more DRM than already exists. Fwiw, it is actually a more lenient licensing agreement than what we had before

It's not even DRM if you have it installed on your console, and DRM is irrelevant to the point of virtual gamecards if you ever watched the Direct in full.

You can transfer your games with over 9 consoles, maybe someone in your household wants to play with you, but they don't want to go through the effort of buying it. The downside is that you must have an internet connection to transfer games with each console. Still, this sounds quite awesome.

The big benefit to this is that you can "mount" games to a secondary console for offline play. I'm excited about that. Hopefully, if one is sleeping, I can wake it and rip the virtual cart out of it from my other one though.

An Internet connection is required to "load and eject" Virtual Game Cards. You also have to link to the other consoles through local wireless at least once before you can lend game cards. But an Internet connection is not required to launch games after all this.

My only real problem with it is that I can't lend to family members without them being in the same room with me. I have friends away at college that I'd love to be able to lend games to, and my wife plays with her siblings a couple major cities over. I wish we could all loan games around.

I thought this was how it worked? It sounds like you need a one time local connection, then you can lend out over the internet. Am I misunderstanding?

Which means whatever firmware we are currently on will probably be the last we can use. Good thing there aren't too many decent games left.

based on the video, for sharing between two consoles owned by the same person, only a one-time local link is required, but sharing with family members is always a local link

New games updates now require the virtual game card to be loaded for the game to start. This is coded on the update and even fail validation on firmware 19.x, requiring internet:(. (figured out on the hundred line, as version 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 both have the issue). As it requires internet to load, there is no way to play offline with the updates installed, and future games might also require internet check as well for base game...

There's nothing new here, downloading games and updates always required the latest system version. Loading a Virtual Game Card only requires internet when loading it, which you already have for sure when you just downloaded the game. Then the game can be played offline.
