I just downloaded Xenoblades Chronicles X from "somewhere" I normally get my games from, but everytime I try to boot I get hit with "software was closed because of an error"

Currently running switch OLED on 18.1.0 AMS 1.7.1 E

Anyone have any pointers ?

Did you find the issue? i am having the same and i don't think it is a bad dump as i try from 3 different places.

i believe i found the issue, the base game runs fine i found out. its the 1.0.1 update that is giving me the issue, i deleted the update data through dbi and now the game is working fine

Hello! Have you found a way that solves your issue? I'm using NSP so I didn't even have the update installed yet (which is what OP did to solve theirs) it keeps giving an error when I install via Awoo through USB.

I've downloaded the XCI file from a certain website that came with the update as well (SHA-1: 3D24C3F942286BC67B04EBB21723D5036D441B2C).
NxFileViewer 3.0.2 found no errors and XCI file passed the integrity check. so it should be a proper dump.

No issues whatsoever on the latest firmware/Atmosphere/Hekate/sys-patch, the game runs perfectly fine. Installed with the latest DBI RU version.

I fixed this issue by updating Tinwoo installer to the latest version and installing the xci with update included from there

Hello @worm28 , thanks for the bump. Although I find it kind of odd that all the NSP files I've downloaded from different sources don't work.

I'll try using the DBI RU installer (as I've been using Tinwoo and Awoo so far) but the files I have on-hand are NSPs. Also thanks for sharing the SHA-1, I'll try finding an XCI file that matches that.

EDIT:

For future reference of anyone who might be dealing with the same issue, DBI RU was what solved my problem. I also have the latest firmware/Atmosphere/Hekate/sys-patch

Did you end up installing the XCI or the NSP?
Is DBI Russian different from the English version?

I used the NSP file still, XCI files are hard for me to work with right now.

As with what Blythe93 mentioned, it's more up to date. The github link for DBI also provides you with a rough translation of what's going on. To be honest, if you're used to the English version, using the Russian version becomes really easy since it's barely changed sans the language.

I've tried about everything and still not working, doubt is a bad dump (tried like 8 different ones nps and xci)

Any idea what else can be? I've tried from 18.0.1 to 19.0.1 with no luck latest atmosphere, syspatch and even sigpatches

I'd try backing up the atmosphere, bootloader and switch folders from the SD card to the PC and then, after you delete them, copy over to the SD card a fresh set of Atmosphere, Hekate and sys-patch files and try to boot into it again. Reinstall the game with the latest DBI RU version if necessary as well. It should work after that.

You can probably use your own hekate_ipl.ini file but, if necessary, you can get it from the sigpatches thread, just make sure to remove the kip1patch=nosigchk line since you'll be using sys-patch instead.

The XCI file that I have (SHA-1: 3D24C3F942286BC67B04EBB21723D5036D441B2C) works perfectly fine when installed with the latest DBI RU version and a clean Atmosphere/Hekate/sys-patch setup. Other than sys-patch, I only have emuiibo, TriPlayer and MissionControl sys-modules installed, all latest versions, so there shouldn't be any conflict between them.

XCI files are hard for me to work with right now.
I'm curious about what may be the problem with the XCI files? To me they are pretty much the same as NSPs or any other format supported by the up-to-date Switch title installers as long as they are properly dumped and pass the integrity check in NxFileViewer.

Did you try with the fresh Atmosphere/Hekate/sys-patch setup? Check the sys-patch logs and see if everything's Patched or Patched.
Researched more about sys-patches. I'm on 1.5.6, had to remove kip1patch=nosigchk line from the hekate_ipl.ini file.
Now everything shows Patched and still shows error message:
This software was closed because an error ocurred.

I installed it multiple times with English DBI, Russian DBI, only the NSP, XCI with RU DBI and Awoo Installer.

Nothing worked sadly.

Edit:
I haven't troubleshoot this much for a game before.

For me specifically it's because the sites I download from have their XCI files into different parts, and it's hard for me to try to piece them back together even though I think I did it right. But then again I didn't have time to test them out with my new setup (using DBI RU), so that could be one factor as well.

Seems to be something a select few of us have in common regarding not being able to launch this no matter what we do. My NSP file works just fine on Ryujinx emulator but not on the Switch itself despite having a clean atmosphere and switch folder, and the right sigpatches and syspatch files. Might be some interference from somewhere no one's been able to pinpoint yet

Ok guys I figured it out for myself personally. I had to update my emummc firmware to 18.0.0 using daybreak and it ended up working on the already installed updateless NSP of Xenoblade X. I believe the firmware I was on before was too old to support the game, when usually you can be pretty far back in firmware to run most new games

besides the fact that if you install the 1.0.1 update it gives an error on startup, make sure you have everything updated as it requires at least 19.0.0 firmware
When updating on the system itself I usually do it through syscfw, and when emummc was still able to work after reboot I forgot that it didn't update since it is a separate instance. I'm definitely going to try to remember this from here on in!

Finally, to get it working with update 1.0.1 you need the absolute latest switch firmware on your emummc (19.0.1) downloaded through daybreak. And for anyone interested in cheats I'm using Ultrahand Overlay and the updated Edizon Overlay linked in the post by impeeza in the Tesla thread on here. (Wish I could link it but Im not allowed to)
