Amazing work , most of the games i tried worked perfect , the only ones i can’t get to run are the final fantasy games ,tried patching them but i still get the white screen and advanced wars 2 this one loads but freezes after i hit new game .
Any ideea what might be the problem ?
I dont have access to my copy (to verify whether they are identical), but I recall they had the same hash.
We should upload a copy to web archive or something.
Tried that, it does show the original UI but you can’t navigate, all input does nothing. Maybe it’s not compatible with my card or I truly broke it and can only use SuperFW, idk
AGB-001 (40 pin version, under battery cover 02 5-2), made in Japan.
Screen: laminated drop-in IPS v5
Contacts cleaned thoroughly.
Supercard with microSD, no matter the alignment and firmwares produces the same corrupted graphics on this GBA.
If games doesn't show corruption, after a while they still crash, freezes. That means, even if you don't see any graphical glitches, you never know when will it crash. For example, Sonic Advance 3 doesn't show glitches, but crashes suddenly in first few minutes of playing.
@Peeteris can you try with stock firmware? i attached the latest official update. on superfw press select and "launch as gba", be sure to press L and change patching to "no patching" before loading.
i was able to replicate what you have been talking about with one of my AGB, 40-pin screen connector, 02 7-2 under the battery cover.
i tested back and forth with the official firmware and superfw. the problem only comes up with superfw.
for what i gather, it has to do with how superfw copies the rom to the sdram, because it happens even when selecting "no patching" for roms patched with the official software. it never happened with the official firmware.
wario land 4 proved to be a good test as it can show corruption during the intro and while selecting levels.
here are some pictures, the examples are quite severe, but i only managed to get it this bad twice. sometimes the music sounds off because one of the musical instruments would be corrupted.
after a thorough cleaning of the cartridge slot it became less prevalent and the file select stopped corrupting, but the third picture remains the same. the intro after you select a new file seems fine but it gets stuck after wario falls.
i also attach a picture of the back of my supercard. the front is the same as all with the lattice cpld and a battery on top.
SuperFW accesses the SD card using the fastest waitstates, to save time. I can only assume this could be one of the differences with the official firmware. I will try do some more testing. I might ping some of you via PM if that's ok, so you can test some stuff on your devices
Thanks!
Classic NES do not work in the original firmware (I think). They are hard to emulate (only some emus do run them).
Final Fantasy are known to be broken, will be fixed in the next release!

You can't use the original flasher on some SuperCard SD clones, because the flash chip ID is not the same as the original. You can however use the raw firmware file from here and flash it using SuperFW or SCFW. You might need to rename the firmware file extension to .fw or .frm depending on the firmware you are currently running.

Tried using raw firmware (posted above by @djmuted) and patched GBA roms with Windows program Super Card v2.71 for SD version. I got the same results (graphical glitches) as with SuperFW.
Post automatically merged:
+ Tried to put paper between supercard board and plastic backpanel, it is very snug fit now, but graphical glithes are identical as they were with SuperFW and original Supercard firmware.
so i tried to make my own cheat for street fighter alpha 3 game, using codebreaker and writing it like superFW default cheat, but that cheat made the game freeze
mmm... the quality of the supercard clone may be a difference?
my supercard works the same as an original. i can flash the original firmware no problem using official means and all tests say ok (hold L and R during boot up with official firmware).
i'm not trying to say that you got dupped or anything, these are all clones, no question. but no 2 clones are made the same it seems. regardless, the common factor is that early gba models seems to be picky.
other than that, yesterday, while doing the tests, i sanded my gba cart slot pins a little with one of those cheap paper nail files to get rid of anything that may be getting in the way then used contact cleaner for the finishing touch, that greatly helped, it eliminated all of the problems under the official firmware and reduced the problems in superfw. after that wario land 4 only had minor graphical glitches, but the game still got stuck after wario falls, so i had to use a save file to continue further.
Allrighty, I'm gonna release a new test version in a couple days. So far we got translations for chinese, german, italian and spanish. Would be nice to get some popular languages like french or russian covered as well. If you could help with them, feel free to PM me
I finished the documentation as well!
We are getting close to version 1.0 release, so lemme just unveil the website/docs: https://superfw.davidgf.net/
Some links are broken (due to the github repo being private), however the basic documentation on things like saves, patching, DS mode, etc. should be good enough.
