For example, a couple of days ago I started playing Bionic Commando again on the 360. It garnered average reviews when it debuted in 2009 (which is originally when I bought it), but for the life of me I could not put the damn game down. So now that I've started playing it again it's the same thing. I was up for two hours last night WAY PAST MY BEDTIME and it's one of those games where you HAVE to keep playing until you reach the next stage or save point, and then you'll do that again just for shits & giggles, not because you have to, but because you can't put the damn game down. I swear this game is massively underrated and it's just a BLAST to play.
I appreciate that there are still some fans of this game. I've played through Bionic Commando 2009 multiple times, and I consider myself a fan. Unfortunately, it is a very stereotypical 7th gen game. Questionable character redesigns, sacrilegious plot twist, comedic levels of swearing, unnecessary multiplayer, and rushed and unfinished pieces throughout.

Capcom really should have made it clear that BC2009 was a linear story-based game. More coverage and a single-player demo would have helped the game during reviewtime. Letting reviewers think the game was more like Spider-Man 2 was a bad move.

The story is full of missing pieces. I'd have to replay it to remember all the details, but there's history between Spencer, Super Joe, and the politician that isn't completely explained. From what I remember, Super Joe had manipulated Spencer into abusing the politician, leading to a ban on bionics. The ban on bionics was to prevent them from stopping Super Joe from releasing some mechanical demons. Also, wife-arm. I think there was a tie-in comic that's available online somewhere, but I'd need a superfan to help fill in all the blanks.

I do think the gameplay is genuinely fun. The level design doesn't always allow the gameplay to reach its full potential, but the game isn't a lost cause. Once you realize that you can hold the button (and hover over the next grapple point) to combine swings, the game feels very fluid. Really, the first playthrough can be rough. It's amazing how quickly the tutorial can be passed in the second runthrough. The very limited ammo really lowered the fun factor, in my opinion. I used a certain program to give myself unlimited ammo in the PC version, and I can confirm that the game is a blast that way. It's a shame that multiple boss fights were shelved.

Capcom and Grin needed the game to be an unexpected success, but the mixed reviews and lack of a demo really tanked it. From what I understand, Grin had spread themselves thin across multiple projects, and BC2009 suffered because of it. Grin had proven themselves with Bionic Commando Rearmed, an excellent game, and I think BC2009 had the potential to be a much more solid product.

EDIT: As another 7th gen go-to, the final boss fight is a QTE. Also, if you're interested, TCRF has an article on what can be found in the PC version. There's a Debug Menu, some unused audio, and even a test level.

It ain't perfect, but for what's there, I had a BLAST playing this thing. Also you mentioned the varied low ammo, I think that I used every facet of my arm and all of its weaponry more than sufficed for various weapons and so forth. And yes, there are times in any given moment that you NEED arms, but they always rain more down depending on the situation. Great game, glad you enjoyed it too Mr. Robert Newbie!

Going to add some more games that I enjoyed that I find are underrated. Gamshara arcade/mame, Intravenous 2 PC, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear PC, Rockman No Constancy NES (A difficult romhack of megaman 2), Lost Vikings 2 snes, the crystal of kings arcade/mame, DoDonPachi Daioujou arcade, resident evil outbreak file 1 and 2 ps2, cold fear pc, Forbidden Siren series.

There are sooooooooooooo many. I'll just list one older and one newer.

Galerians: Ash
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

I've just gotten a hold of (lol, yeahright) a copy of Galerians. I've heard good things about this game, so it's on my list of must-haves. Thank you very much Mr. RedColoredStars! (or is that Ms, or Mrs???)

Most people really enjoy the original but hate Ash. Sure it's not the greatest game in the world and not as good as the first, but it's also not the worst game in the world and I still feel it's quite underrated.

So there's a thread on here about games that are overrated, and it's a great thread. I'm reciprocating that thread with this one, as we all know there are games that we just played the hell out of because they were so damn addicting regardless of reviews.

For example, a couple of days ago I started playing Bionic Commando again on the 360. It garnered average reviews when it debuted in 2009 (which is originally when I bought it), but for the life of me I could not put the damn game down. I swear this game is massively underrated and it's just a BLAST to play.

So, I'll start with that!

Anything else Dizzy? Sure, here are just a few more...

Assault Rigs (PS1)
Battle Arena Toshinden (PS1)
Jumping Flash 1 & 2 (PS1)
Panzer Dragoon (Sega Saturn)
Panzer Dragoon Orta (XBox)
Godzilla Destroy All Monters Melee (Gamecube)
Psi-Ops - The Mindgate Conspiracy (XBox, PS2)
Hunter - The Reckoning (XBox)
Pitfall - The Lost Expedition (XBox & PS2)
Crackdown 1 & 2 (Xbox 360)
Alice Madness Returns (XBox 360, PS3)
Otogi 1 & 2 (XBox)
Quantum Redshift (XBox)
Mechassault Lone Wolf (XBox)
Flipnic (PS2)
Oh, and one more game... Baulder's Gate Dark Alliance (XBox, PS2). JUST. FUCKING. BRILLIANT.

And a shit load of others.

Oh, and one final game here... Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. (Oops, that's not a game, that's a movie).

I cannot account for PS4 games other than any DOOM game that's available for it, as my nephew gave me his PS4 and I've only used it to play the various iterations of Doom that he'd already put on his system. Additionally, I cannot account for any PS5 & Series X games because I don't own any of those consoles. Additionally, while I've got a decked-out PC, I am not a PC gamer, so there's that.
However folks, it's just a list to start here, but please chime in and let your gaming dollars be heard! View attachment 454286
Pokemon Ultrasun. Plot, cutscenes, gameplay, all on a little 3DS. It's literally one of my favorite game, all the cutscenes and the music is so good.

The literal perfect game. And also Parappa the Rapper 1 + 2, and Um Jammer Lammy. It's just abosute perfection with the banger music and everything.

Is it a great game? No.

Is it a fun game which gorgeous and distinctive art direction? Yes

From that generation of games, one of the few which had colours other than shitty brown and puke grey.

ŌkamiDen, by a country kilometre.
Twilight Princess is oft mishated and belittled, when it's a very solid game that stays true to what Legend of Zelda used to stand for - stays true to the heart and soul of the franchise.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective has always been a niche game, even after being surprisingly ported to modern platforms.

That reminds me, I never played those two games.

This also reminds me that American McGee just kind of vanished after Madness Returns released. Based on what I know of his games, they seem like they'd be a perfect fit for the current indie scene.

If possible, check them out at your earliest convenience. They are both very creative in gameplay and in presentation, and they are a lot of fun. I own both for the 360.

On Steam, you can get Madness Returns for an unreasonable .99 cents. I can't find American McGee's Alice on Steam, but I'm sure you can find that for next to nothing as well.

Enjoy!

What's your opinion on the Nickelodeon Victorious games (every single one on mainline consoles, not browser/flash games) (xb360, nds, and wii)
