Hackers release playable PC builds of Pokémon Legends Arceus and more following Game Freak gigaleak

ca-times.brightspotcdn.jpg

We recently reported that Game Freak suffered a security breach which led to a huge amount of confidential data being leaked such as game source codes and internal design documents.

During the cyber attack, the hackers also obtained native PC builds of Pokémon Legends Arceus as well as builds of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl.

Now these official PC versions of the games have been cracked and are available to find online meaning they can be played on PC without the need for emulation though it seems compatibility may be an isuse with specific Nvidia cards and drivers being required.

The builds of Pokémon BDSP appear to be close to final debug builds, and Pokémon Legends Arceus is an early prototype build. These PC editions, made during internal testing and development of the games were most likely never intended to be publically released on PC and their releases are sure to further infuriate Nintendo and Game Freak who have already seen so much data leak.

Like Scarlet already said, Gen 5 games (Black, White, Black 2 and White 2) use DS Download Play to transfer over a program that reads a Gen 4 game's save and allows you to transfer Pokémon from Gen 4 to 5. So whatever list you looked up is incomplete :D
Pokémon Battle Revolution also makes use of DS Download Play to either read or manipulate the save file of a Gen 4 game.
I haven't played through Gen 5 or much of Battle Revolution, so I didn't know that. The more you know!

I know. Any profit is better than no profit, but the end goal is always providing a service valuable and enticing enough to convert the vast majority of pirates to legitimate customers.
Again, currently, the Switch does have a valuable, enticing system for playing their games. Maybe the underpowered hardware is a turnoff for some, but for the average person, it's the most economical way to get into games, simply because it's the cheapest way. Now, it still has the $300 console + $60 per game entry fee, but this is still cheaper than other systems. In fact, it's more expensive to buy a decent PC ($500 or more) and pirate all your games than it is to buy the Switch and a few games. If pirates can't afford that, that's on them.
We have no idea whether that's true or not, because we have nothing to compare to. If Nintendo does finally decide to provide an alternative to piracy for PC-only gamers, then we can begin gathering statistics on the matter in earnest.
I'll admit that this is true. I still maintain that most emulation is done because it's free and not because PC has native ports, but I suppose neither of us has evidence to back up our opinions. I'll call this argument (whether people emulate because it's free vs because it's the only way to play on PC) a draw, since neither of us has evidence to prove it.

you didn't miss out on much tbh, it's essentially a rebooted take on gen 1 and gen 2 but if gen 2 took place in kanto and had a few more cities (oversimplified and flawed explanation i'm aware lmao), i do feel like gen 5 is a bit over hyped, like it's one of the better games but a tad bit overrated.

And to think, people used to HATE the Gen 5 games when they were supported. It wasn't until fairly recently that people suddenly decided "Wait, actually, I did like Black and White. I guess I was too blinded by old-game bias to notice". Personally, I enjoyed Pokemon Black and Black 2, especially since 5th gen was when I actually got into the mainline games (first true introduction to the games for me were Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness - kinda wish they had revisited the Shadow Pokemon concept in later games besides Pokemon GO).

Fun fact: Victini was one of the first Mythical Pokemon introduced in Gen 5, and is one of my favorite Mythical Pokemon (which is why I'm a bit bitter over the fact that Scarlet/Violet still won't let me transfer Victini over to it, since I ended up skipping Sw/Sh and picked up Legends: Arceus later instead - at least Meloetta managed to get in).

ngl i see what you're saying, but no offense if i had a nickel for every time I've said anything remotely opinionated about gen 5 and someone responded with a whole personal paragraph, I'd have 23 nickels so I'm sorta out of commentary on this atp.

Eh, just a bit of a habit from back in college that has yet to fully die. Usually because it feels like people miss the point I'm making when I try to summarize everything into one or two sentences. So I've kinda done away with the whole "tl;dr" thing (unless I make a post that legitimately needs one) and just let people respond however they like.

This is an old prototype from when the Switch version was in production, not a new PC port. The full game is no there and I doubt it runs any better.

Either way, stick with buying games honestly instead of pirating them.
yeah how about no, i havent PAID for a game in 25 years, and i aint gonna start now. i usually end up getting most games early too.

So? Why exactly did you feel the need to tell me this? Telling me you've been stealing for 25 yeas isn't going to stop me from pointing out piracy is stealing.

It's their one and only message on this forum, and they haven't even introduced themselves. That means they're either a bot or a troll, so best to ignore them. Especially if they never show up again.

Didn't even think to look at that, thanks for the tip, I'll have to stay more vigilant in the future.

maybe game freak will learn to keep this kind of data on computers not connected to the outside. the computers used to develop should have no connection to the outside world. only way to get a data leak at that point, is to walk out with a usb drive.

You know, I've been interested in playing through a Pokemon game for years, and fans would tell me that Black & White (especially Black & White 2) was particularly good. I think those voices were out there, but the Pokemon fandom is probably a bit scattered.

Since it's been around since the 90's, I'm sure there's a Pokemon GO crowd, a gen-one crowd, a modern era crowd, etc.

i just want wiiu port of hert gold and soul silver with gamepad and tv screen plus beautiful resolution.

  1. download the hg/ss source code (it is obtainable!)
  2. create a wrapper for all of the nitrosdk usage, converting it to do use something like sdl2
    - audio and then graphics will probably be the hardest parts
    - DS wireless functionality would have to be cut out / changed - can be fixed later
  3. game is no longer tied to the DS! make the wii u specific changes, buttons, larger draw area, screens etc
  4. done!
it would be a great project to work on, but very time consuming. good luck
