With all due respect, shut the fuck up. I live in a state that is going to be red regardless of my vote. Equally, for my own reasons, I am free to abstain. I respect that you want the Dems to win, but trying to guilt people into voting is how you end up with someone throwing their votes away out of spite.

If it matters: we've had local elections in Belgium recently. The result is usually a patchwork of different parties that somehow have to come up with something of a coherent policy (we have four parties in our town alone). It was the first election that wasn't obligated, and nearly half abstained as well. So though i personally disagree, you're in good (or at least a large) company.

I would definitely prefer that over the electoral system. Or really any voting system where the individual vote felt like it actually mattered. As it stands, I’ve lived in many areas with set colors and it made the voting process rather pointless for me. Hell, I can confidently say that where I live is going to be one big Blue spot in the middle of a larger Red state, which will only keep the state permanently Red. Which if the system was ever fair and the districts weren’t gerrymandered to constantly favor one side, the state would likely be considered a “swing state” and voting would also feel more necessary or even likely to swing toward a 3rd party. This is part of why I don’t vote, because my state is structured to constantly favor Red due to ensuring blue votes are repressed. It’s an anomaly whenever this changes and sadly, 2024 isn’t going to be one of those years.

It honestly sounds like my state. I still went and voted even though the entire system is jacked up. I'm really hoping that the cracks that have been known about and have been busting open recently get things fixed before it's too late.

I'll just repeat what I've said earlier.

Every vote does matter and that kind of mindset is why some elections whether it be the state or presidential could have been different if people that didn't vote actually, you know, did vote.

I know that Harris isn't perfect. No human is, but if we actually want to stop Trump and the MAGA cult from winning, every vote actually matters. The smallest of differences matters a lot in the long run. Even if your state isn't a swing state or it's stuck in red, the effort still matters.

But if you're that dead set on not voting or rather prefer to vote a third-party, well, that's your choice. I won't push this any further from here on.

Honestly, even if one doesn't like Harris, Trump is going to make things much worse for everyone except for the following type of person:

One of the big reasons why I voted for Harris is so that I can vote in another 4 years. I don't know how Harris will handle the next 4 years. Maybe she'll do a good job and if she chooses to run again, then I'll vote for her again. If she doesn't, then I can vote for someone else. Giving Trump the office is unlikely to grant me that chance in 4 years or for however long after that. If Trump gets back in, it won't just be dealing with him. It's everyone he has appointed and will appoint to key positions. Trump himself is just a puppet in the grand scheme of things as it is.

Maybe at some point, the electoral college will be dropped and perhaps popular vote will be what determines who becomes President, but we'll never get to that point if we lose our ability to vote.
