I know, and this is mostly because of poor management of Trudeau's administration. We really need to kick his ass out.
In 9 years, he doubled the country's debt (in 9 years, in rose the debt as much as in the previous 150 years. Not funny at all)

That is false, those experiencing food insecurity in Argentina are at 36% compared to 16.9% of Canadians - and Chile GDP per Capita is $15,355 compared to Canada at $54,900

It's fun to poke at Canada, but it's still far and away one of the most prosperous and wealthy countries in the history of the world

Edit: despite being less than 0.5% of the total world population, they hold 2.5% of all wealth - to put that in perspective Canada is the 8th wealthiest country in the world - not in relative, but ABSOLUTE terms

Despite its tiny population it has more wealth overall than Italy, S Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Spain

Number 7 is India - Canada is literally one place down from a country that has 1/6 of the global population - in absolute terms

wealthy? yes, on paper. but you have no idea how many people are getting expelled from their appartment for no good reason. Also, take a look at the rent for appartments in big cities. For exemple, at Montreal, for a 4 1/2 (2 bedrooms appartment), the rent is too often over 2000$. I heard it was even worse at Vancouver (because of another problem. Chinese who are buying properties all over their territory).

This is a problem all over the world, every major city will have high rent - if you don't want to pay high rent, live in a suburb or small town

I pay 1700 USD for a studio apartment in a medium size city - 2000 CAD (not even USD) to live in a major world city is actually super reasonable

Sorry, but no, it's not reasonable (1700USD for a studio is not reasonnable either).
Not that long ago, we were living in a 5 1/2 (3 bedrooms) at Laval (3rd biggest city of Quebec, located right next to Montreal) and it costed only 700.
This is how much I pay right now for a 3 1/2 (around the same location). It is a problem all over the world, yes, and that is what it is, a problem.
And please, stop saying stuff like "CAD, not even USD" because it sounds very diminishing. We don't use USD in Canada, just like they don't use USD in Australia, in Europe and everywhere else in the world.
If people want to move somewhere else, they just can't. I pay 720$ a month and that's very very very low compared to how much this is worth right now on the market (I was VERY lucky to get this appartment right before the actual crisis begins)
and btw, I said 2000$ for a 2 bedrooms appartment, but this is not an "average". I'm talking about a close minimum for something where you can barely live.
I saw a 2 1/2 not too far from where I live (1 bed room, 1 bathroom, 1 room that serves as kitchen/dining room/living room), the building was crumbling, it looked like it would fall appart, it was just in a really terrible state, and yet, they still asked 1200$/month for that. Well, that's the kind of appartment you would pay 2000$ for in Montreal.
Also, laws are so badly made. Landlord can actually expel you for a few reasons, such as if they need the appartment for a family member, or if they need to do major renovation (also called renoviction).
There are landlord who will abuse of these laws to expel people who lived there for a long time and who were paying like 800$/month, make very minor renovation (paint wall, change the floor, etc), and rent it back to the next person for 2500$. And this is 100% legal.
This is NOT normal

Another fact to be aware of is "what is considered as poverty" here. Because I don't think they raised that level by that much recently. Today, if you earn over 31 000$, you are no longer considered as poor. But let's be honnest, how can you live with 31 000$ a year? substract all income taxes, you are down to 21 700. Substract all sale taxes, you are down to 18 400$. Now, pay your rent (let's say it's 1 000$, and I'm VERY generous), you are down to 6 400$. Now pay your groceries for the year. By the way, our food is more and more expensive too. There are no way you can treat yourself with such wage. And yet, you are considered as middle-class, so you should be fine, right?

My point is 2000 CAD is a little less than 1500 USD, so for a two bedroom in a major city it is extremely reasonable - especially for a country with average salary at about 70,000 CAD

Yes there has been inflation, but there has also been a rise in wages

The main point tho is Canada is one of the best places to live in the entire world

It's ranked in top 5 consistently - if you think it's so mismanaged try looking at everywhere else.

70 000$ ??? I don't know where you took these numbers, but the average salary in Canada is 50 000$, not 70 000$.
Also, why should I take a look "everywhere else"? you say Canada is in the top 5 best country in the world? is "everywhere else" in that top 5 too? Again, it is not normal.

USD are used so others can understand the local costs of things

I think even you are getting lost in confusion because 50,000 is the Canadian wage in terms of USD but 70,000 is the Canadian wage in terms of CAD

@Noctosphere and @x65943 Sorry for had touched a sensible topic. I know is a delicate subject, and as is politic is very subjective and can sting on the soul. believe me I live on Colombia, until 3 years ago we had capitalist governments but since then the economics is changing a lot we are heading to Venezuela, past Argentina y god forbids Cuba, I personally had saving for years for a home and in 1 year the prices duplicated. I feel your pain buddies, and hope our leaders change soon so the economics and all our lives get better soon.
