Ryujinx emulator taken down after devs reach agreement with Nintendo

In what could possibly be the worst way to start October for emulation enthusiasts, as of just a few minutes ago the Ryujinx repository appears to be down, with the usual "404" message being given when trying to enter any of their related GitHub pages. Not even the main Ryujinx developer account seems to be active.

Currently there hasn't been any official reports as to why this occurred. None of the official social media accounts for the emulator have given any response, nor has any of the developers talked about why the repository is down, but we'll be sure to keep you updated whenever any new developments towards this situation are known.

UPDATE #1: Given the nature of the page being down with a 404 message, it's possible that this could be related to the removal of the Ryujinx account, and not a DMCA. If the repository suffered from a DMCA claim, then the DMCA notice would appear when entering the repository. However, that is not the case, and the DMCA listings from GitHub doesn't have any recent entries for Ryujinx.

UPDATE #2: The Ryujinx Discord server has paused invites for the moment, and additionally, one of the Discord mods posted the following message:
"To clarify, it's not a DMCA, it's not an issue with GitHub. Please wait for further information and refrain from spreading misinfo thanks."

UPDATE #3: According to an official statement on Ryujinx's Discord server, developer gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and they were offered an agreement to stop working on the emulator project, and while the agreement wasn't confirmed yet, the organization has been entirely removed.

UPDATE #4: According to other devs, the developer was not only contacted, but actually tracked down by Nintendo to his location, and pressured to developer to cease and abandon development altogether for the emulator.

This marks now the 2nd and only main remaining Switch emulator that Nintendo has taken down as of today, and without any proper and clear protection when it comes to emulation and preservation down the road, it's likely that Nintendo will continue on its efforts to bring down emulation as a whole.

Nintendo has gone too far this time; they’ve crossed a line. Emulators are not illegal as long as no code is stolen from the manufacturer of the device being emulated. Due to Nintendo’s actions, I’ve lost interest in all Nintendo devices. The fact that they managed to force the developer to stop working on Ryujinx and threatened them is the cherry on top of the cake. I won’t be buying the Switch successor, and neither will my best friend. We’ve lost interest in Nintendo products because of their shady business practices.

Could also be that the guy got offered a job at Nintendo for development of backward compatibility features. He proved himself in that way, so maybe there's mutual interest and not just threats. But as said, NDA, so we'll likely never know. 🫤
I would love this on multiple levels.

Did anyone know if people want sign up for NDA, then software is bundle with nasty malware, spyware call like RAT by Nintendo company can enjoy monitor / spy on people all of times. I never trust NDA on computer, because it's very dangerous. Never forget it. They must end up to re-format operating system to nuke to remove nasty malware, spyware due to RAT then reinstall all over again. They need to wake up and be careful. :(

“God damnit Tendo shut up and keep making games for me to pirate and emulate!!! Errrrr”

It’s amazing how long they coexisted with the Switch. And ppl should be grateful it lasted until the last major game release of the consoles life.

The switch is in post mortem, only Nintendo doesn't know it.

probably avoiding the lawsuit. here's to hoping someone will necro ryujin to something named gaijin maybe. it's so good for me cause it's easier to mod / use trainer. thanks for the memories.

@ chrisrlink ahh i see that's why it took a while for nintendo to do something about it.

i thought using ioen source code (by another person w/o consent was illrgal (and i doubt the consent was unanomous if given or if the money was divided equally, i bet the head dev took all the money and said f-you to the other devs

brazil has no copyright laws (reason why nintendo refuses to sell anything there) so ryujinx was safe as the devs were all from there unlike yuzu team

On a postitive note hats off to ryujinx team yuzu team and all the other forks teams... If not for their efforts along with heskin and crew fusee gelee there would be no switch emulation... In reality we have a large catalouge of titles to play enjoy and or preserve on Switch Emulation platforms just use multiple emulators and be thankful for nearly 4000 games that are playable and working... But i really wanna give a HUGE SHOUTOUT TO NINTENDO for putting the console out in the 1st place with no security no matter what update is applied to the console... I mean that's like millions of wide open consoles reversed easily and when a system is reversed what happens BAM a emulator geez what total shocker... All that hard work became cfw atmosphere hekate and well 3rd Pc party systems Yuzu and Ryujinx then came android blah blah!!! I'm just interested to see if Brothership works next month that's the big cheese for ninty leftover... But then again echoes worked on yuzu still after not being updated since march takedown??? I wouldn't have thought it would work at all even without all the mods that came out after???

Most likely the reason Nintendo is being so aggressive at this exact moment is because they want to prevent the devs of the main Switch emulators from moving on to create a functional Switch 2 emulator when that comes out. That's going to be the real test.

I hope a team of crazies go dark and create a switch 2 emulator and keep it all to themselves and just randomly put out new versions online, avoiding Nintendo completely.

Very true but notice its never the same developers in each console generation... so someone else will take on the next system!!!
Geohot hacked the ps3 so did failoverflow Malitiueth or how ever its spelled and a few more devs.... On the ps4 completely different devs theflow cturt specter dev and so forth so diff devs with different knowledge take on what interests them so i think we'll be okay once more... Every Nintendo device has had giant security flaws and that makes reversing simpler to lead to an emu.... I mean i remember good ole gamcube lan hack pso load up run said program on pc bam your running a backup lol... Stuff like that which is hilarious still to this day.

High believable it's Nintendo's strategy of protecting their interests and serving investors ahead of a product launch. Probably avoiding something like Fuzee from happening again.

I speculate the Switch successor's hardware is not that much different from the existing (could be Tegra T239). Since Yuzu and Ryujinx are good at emulating Tegra X1, I wager Nintendo would see this as a risk for any day 1 product launches probably like what happened with Zelda TotK being fully playable at 4k on an emulator at launch.

We're probably about at the end of emulation all together. Who is going to dare to do all the work on an emulator for Switch 2 when Nintendo's Bowser looms? We may get a decent PS4 emulator one day in the distant future but that's about it. Supposedly 6 games are now working on an Xbox One emulator but who gives a damn about that console except for 1 or 2 exclusives rest are on PC already.

Usually true but Citra and Yuzu were the same devs. That is why they both went bye bye at the same time.

There is already PS4 emulator in early stage like beta. Developers still working on PS4 emulator name is ShadPS4.

I saw Xbox One emulator name is XWine1. I remember saw Xbox One game name is ReCore means enemies have red orb ball and other good robot have blue orb ball to allow us to swap between robots. Steal red orb ball out of robot body and toss away or destroy it then put blue orb ball in to make ally to join in to help in battle. ReCore is one cool game on my wanted list to play on Xbox One emulator on my gaming PC. ReCore game is shooter compare to Halo. Also on Steam too. I looking into ReCore game.

That's great to know. B-) :yay:
