Ryujinx emulator taken down after devs reach agreement with Nintendo

images.png

In what could possibly be the worst way to start October for emulation enthusiasts, as of just a few minutes ago the Ryujinx repository appears to be down, with the usual "404" message being given when trying to enter any of their related GitHub pages. Not even the main Ryujinx developer account seems to be active.

Currently there hasn't been any official reports as to why this occurred. None of the official social media accounts for the emulator have given any response, nor has any of the developers talked about why the repository is down, but we'll be sure to keep you updated whenever any new developments towards this situation are known.

UPDATE #1: Given the nature of the page being down with a 404 message, it's possible that this could be related to the removal of the Ryujinx account, and not a DMCA. If the repository suffered from a DMCA claim, then the DMCA notice would appear when entering the repository. However, that is not the case, and the DMCA listings from GitHub doesn't have any recent entries for Ryujinx.

UPDATE #2: The Ryujinx Discord server has paused invites for the moment, and additionally, one of the Discord mods posted the following message:
"To clarify, it's not a DMCA, it's not an issue with GitHub. Please wait for further information and refrain from spreading misinfo thanks."

UPDATE #3: According to an official statement on Ryujinx's Discord server, developer gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and they were offered an agreement to stop working on the emulator project, and while the agreement wasn't confirmed yet, the organization has been entirely removed.

UPDATE #4: According to other devs, the developer was not only contacted, but actually tracked down by Nintendo to his location, and pressured to developer to cease and abandon development altogether for the emulator.

This marks now the 2nd and only main remaining Switch emulator that Nintendo has taken down as of today, and without any proper and clear protection when it comes to emulation and preservation down the road, it's likely that Nintendo will continue on its efforts to bring down emulation as a whole.

Fights? They wrote an emulator so that you can pirate games.
Nobody is fighting. It's for lolz.
I guess in your eyes, even if we all did the legal steps to play our game on PC, it is still piracy under your eyes, and your loosely call everyone a pirate? guys, we got a Nintendo agent spy right here.

There's a GitHub clone based in Russia where PayWallsClean is now being hosted and...I suggest that we as a collective start fucking using it
Hosting your software in a website from an enemy country hostile to western countries is a good way to kill any kind of help your program would need. What is the guarantee that Russia or China won't use parts or your entire program for purposes you wouldn't approve, such as hypersonic missile guidance systems to destroy targets in Ukraine or Taiwan, or even nuclear weapons?

You took your meds?

I remember the days where I have to use russian servers, and with translators, to play online games like Lost Ark, before it ever came to the US officially by amazon (and how they screwed it up too), and it was quite easy to play the game even for a russian server.

The only way to not be a pirate is to
  1. Get a Switch
  2. Mod that Switch
  3. Get your Keys
  4. Dump your games
You can say that the majority of use cases doesn't satisfy 1,2, and 3.

this is disappointing but i'd imagine development will resume on the DL like for AM2R

It's ZSNES vs Snes9X all over again.
yeah but yuzu doesnt have the snazzy UI lol.

Ryujinx performance on Steam Deck is also terrible compared to Yuzu even with the stability improvements

That's the thing, ZSNES had amazing performance back in the day but was full of speed hacks. SNES9X is more stable and accurate but less performant (My poor 350mhz Pentium 2 is crying).

Like how TOTK broke Yuzu, this image of EOW running in RyujinX also broke the emulator. Special thanks to the assholes.

Wow! I'm very upset about Ryujinx going down today. Very sad news.

I heard AMD company is trying going inside next new Nintendo next generation of hardware but lost to Nvidia company. Nvidia company won over AMD in bid war for on Nintendo next generation of hardware. I know AMD have more powerful performance can lift up to keep all games running solid on 60 FPS something like that. Heck it for AMD to lose it! :nayps3:

About Nintendo Switch 2 then everyone will know new Ryujinx 2 emulator and new Yuzu 2 emulator would come out in few years. Look like they don't make it. RIP to all. :(

Good bye to Nintendo! I'm force to buy PlayStation new systems until PS6. Sony PlayStation hardware are more powerful than Nintendo weak systems. Means Nintendo will never beat PlayStation. We want Nintendo games to port to PlayStation in near future would be huge great news for all of us and people can play all games anytime. AMD in PS4, PS5 and PS6 are more powerful enough can do big throw to punch Nintendo out! Sony PlayStation would love to crush & stomp on Nintendo to pieces away then death!

Go go Sony PlayStation, you can do best to keep successful then victory in the future to against Nintendo!

Will dolphin and atmopshere be next? I hope they will be able to resist the money bag offered, even if the size of mt rushmore.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if ninty is already in similar "discussions" with them.

What's the agreement exactly?

We will likely never know. One common condition with such agreements is NDA, which means nothing can be revealed about it by either side. Suffice to say, it must be lucrative or terrifying enough that the dev would be willing to agree to such a condition that would prevent him from explaining his decision.
