Can I use non official dock ?

I am gonna buy a dock station for my Asus Rog ally but I also have an OLED switch and I want to know if I can plug the switch on the same dock station to avoid to unplug / replug HDMI cable every time

Check that the dock specifically supports the Switch and also any reviews.

Back when they first appeared, there were issues with third party Switch docks bricking systems, that is docks specifically sold with Switch compatibility, although I haven't heard of anything in the last few years.

Alternatively, if you want to play it safe, just get a HDMI switch and use both docks.

Probably not a good idea, the Rog ally uses a 65watt power supply, where the Switch only uses a 39watt power supply.

and ? the Switch will simply eat 39w (in fact : 18w) on a 65w power supply...nothing else. it's not dangerous and will not fry anything

i'm using a 100w power supply to charge my Switch Lite, my samsung S23 (which only support 20w charge), my Precision 7680 (180w charge), my JBL headset, etc.
and my house is not on fire.

ps : and switch is using 18w, so 39w power supply is already far too high.
I'm also using a genki Switch dock which delivers...30w

Like many cheap USB-C chargers, the Nyko dock does not actually have a dedicated PD controller; it instead implements the PD protocol using a general purpose microcontroller—and that microcontroller was sending 9V to the Switch over the CC pin, exceeding the absolute maximum voltage rating by 50%. And as they taught me in Electronics Technician A School in my Navy days, when you let the magic smoke out, the widget stops working.

they don't even know what they are talking about. Switch were frying because of bad quality noname docks which didn't implement all the specificities of the original one.
and this was NOT because of the power supply, never.

USB-C power supply and peripherals talk together : "Hello, I'm Switch, I need 5V and 15V under 18w, can you please provide it to me ?" "Yeah, of course, here it is"
There is NO problem with power supply.

First of all, I would advise quoting when responding as that created alerts.

Second, I quoted both of you because we're talking about what the issue was with the third party switch docks, confirming it was not to do with the chargers.

Third, you still should have read the post, even if your response was 'why are you quoting me?' instead of assuming I was talking about chargers.
