So I just ordered a Japanese Wii U, because it was the only one I'll be able to afford for likely almost a year. I found a way to change the Wii U menu language, but I can't find a way to change the vWii language. Is there a way to do this? If not, will games on WiiFlow/USBLoaderGX display in English?

I have used it and successfully modified the Japanese vwii to the english version.
There's no need to worry about brick vwii at all, because Gary's vWii Decaffeinator can save it.
By the way, this is just my experience, if you want to try, please make a backup first.

That’s great! Can you show me a step by step guide on how to do it? I know you said not to worry about bricking it, I’m just worried that someone else did.

Could you tell me what to modify on the file with SettingsEdit? Thank you.

Do you know what I would change JPN to if I live in the USA?
My console region is Japan, I have modified two positions, vwii becomes the english interface,I'm not sure if this is the right, the best way, but it worked:

You need to obtain setting.txt through FTP (Like FTPiiU-Everywhere), It is located in /slccmpt01/title/00000001/00000002/data/setting.txt. After completing SettingEdit editing, upload to the same location. Please backup the original setting.txt files.

Thank you so much! Once my Wii remote arrives, I will definitely try this. Although, I did some additional research, and it seems that if you do this on a regular Wii, it causes issues with accessing the settings. Have you noticed any issues by doing this on your Wii U?

I'll test again, you're right. Perhaps there are other unknown issues.

I have regained the 'Wii Options'
After completing SettingEdit ,go to vWii Decaffeinator,Advanced options, set Wii Menu Manual & System menu <yes>.
then update the system.
If you are interested, please backup first.

Wait so do you have to use SettingEdit then vWii Decaffeinator and then do a system update for the language change to apply, or is simply editing the values in SettingEdit the way you posted earlier enough?

I'm trying to change my vWii's language from English to Japanese to see if my Japanese Super Mario Galaxy discs are gonna be able to launch, since the way I got them working on my regular Wii was by language changing it to Japanese, so I would assume the same should work on the vWii as well. (yes I know there are easier ways to do that btw but it's mainly for romhacks with Riivolution, rather than just playing the vanilla games)

What did you put in SettingEdit as the Model, DVD, MPCH, Serno?

Is the folder named slccmpt01 only shown in tiramisu?
I'm using Aroma. I can't see it. I'm using both FlashFXP and FileZilla.
And do I have to encrypt file setting.txt?
thank you

Previous steps worked but this bricked my vWii.

Running Minute autobooting Aroma. vWii has priiloader and ios58/cios249

after decaff, I couldn't update system because I'd deleted my update folder and aroma runs pretendo. I restored /update/, turned off pretendo. update just says "system is up to date". tried to force update in decaffeinator, nothing. so vwii is bricked

what should be my next step? set isfxhax to boot to the wii u menu (not sure how to do that), run caffeine again, force update and update from the menu? run an aggressive wipe? any tips?

(Edit: Fixed. first I recreated the update folder which I'd deleted through aroma. you can do that with UFDiine but I just made the directory through ftpiiu and made sure it had the right perms. I stopped minute autobooting into aroma by removing the sd card, and I overwrote my slc version of wafel_isfshax_patch.ipx in the slc with ftpiiu, replacing it with the 1.0 version from here that doesn't block updates: https://github.com/isfshax/wafel_isfshax_patch/releases/download/v1.0/wafel_isfshax_patch.ipx . then I updated from the system menu and the wii is now english!)

Hope you're still around on this site. Can you go into more detail on this step? New to this and struggling to work out how to fix my vwii because it keeps saying the console is up to date. vwii decaffinator seems like such a bait at this stage.

Hello,

I ran into the same issue.

What I did was the following:

1. Downloaded the newest version of 5isfshax.ipx
2. Downloaded the newest version of 00core.ipx
3. Place both files in your SD card's hax/ios_plugins directory
4. Boot with the SD in place and make sure updates are unblocked
5. Run haxcopy and follow the prompts. It should install the files needed to the SLC
6. Boot without the SD card installed.
7. Connect to the internet and run the system update. It should actually work this time.

I was frustrated and spent hours on this, so hopefully this helps you, _Miharu_.

Yep that did it for me thanks for your input. I had already done fastboot so all I needed was to boot bare metal. Cool! vWii updating now.

I had changed the setting.txt file from Japanese to English and did a factory reset. An error occurred while restoring the wii. Now the console starts to the wii u menu message and only the background appears. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this now?
