The tape is exactly for that: The Wii U uses a laser to read the switch state but this laser is pretty picky. A small scratch between the switch and the casing you can't even see is enough for the Wii U to think the card is locked. In these cases one just grabs a piece of tape and covers the switch under it: Laser can't pass anymore, Wii U thinks cardn isn't locked. This trick even worked for people who somehow managed to completelly rip the switch off the SD card.Tape?
The problem could be that the sd card is locked
Yes I have formatted it to Fat32 and bought 3 sd cards but they all don’t work for some reason? Is there anything I’m doing wrong? Can you confirm that the card is formatted to fat32? Do you have any others to test with?
Ok thanks for that, does it need to be a certain colour of tape? Also what could it be if it’s not a write lock issueThe tape is exactly for that: The Wii U uses a laser to read the switch state but this laser is pretty picky. So seeing the OP tried tape already I'm pretty sure it's not a write lock issue.
The legit 32 GB sdhc SanDisk worked. It really is picky about SD cards. I haven’t a clue how people have got larger sdxc cards to work as 100% didn’t work for me using guiformat.I can confirm that using multiple adaptors with a micro sd, both a 32 sdhc micro and a 256 sdxc came up with the same error. Then got a 128 gb full size sd and same error.
Tried tape with all 3. Can jailbreak the system as it reads the files. I could save a mii photo to it from the system but the error persists when you insert the card. Can’t download from the gb App Store, can’t install WUP. Frustrating.
Finally found a legit 32gb sdhc sanDisk I’m going to try next and update.
I even got a different wiiu and tried a 2nd system but same error so far. (Note both are 32gb black USA models)
One person suggested the write protect arm inside the readers wears out as it is springy metal that has to complete a contact to disable write protection.
Idk but I can confirm it is very frustrating.
