You can do it but not directly.
The signal level on line output of your external audio source is too strong to be feed directly to the Mic input of your phone. You have two options:
- Use an external audio interface like iRig series from IK Multimedia to convert your line output to digital stream and then feed it to your phone. This is the best option and will give you stereo and high quality audio.
- Use a Line to Microphone Attenuator Cable (like Movo MV-RC300) to first reduce the signal level to mic level. This will give you a mono input with so so quality.
