Cannot launch a game without updating anymore

So I was playing Mario Kart 8 DX (the cartridge version), v1.7.2. Yesterday, it gave me a nag to update the game every time I launched it, but it had a "Start software" button. Today, the nag has upgraded and now is stubborn on having me update the game otherwise it wouldn't launch it.

I do not want to update it because all the update does is add "DLC PASS NOW AVAILABLE PLEASE PURCHASE IT ON NINTENDO ESHOP" all over the game, I just want to play singleplayer in peace.

How do you reset it so it shows the "Start software" button again?

And if you are wondering, NO, I do not have a hackable Switch as it is patched. I cannot solder without fucking up the Switch nor do I have the money to pay twice MSRP for an unpatched Switch.

Your only option in that case is to format your system, this will remove all traces of game updates. Then keep it offline so it can't download a list of latest game updates anymore, and you'll be able to play off the cartridge without updating.

How can I keep it offline when I will have to redownload the digital games from the eShop?

Ah, well, that's the kicker. You don't. You'll only be able to play your physical cartridges, unupdated. But this is your only way right now if you want to play MK8D without updating to the latest 2.0.0, I'm afraid.

Wait, I reset the update data by going into maintenance mode... Now it nags me to update but displays "Start Software" again!

I was under the impression that the update nag was about the game update, but it sounds like it was for the system update instead. You can safely update to the latest firmware and you won't get that nag again, it won't force you to update MK8D.

Ondrashek06 does this still work? i tried to initialize in maintenance mode deleting everything but save data but still get the pesky update instead of start software. Or do i need to get rid of save data as well?​

This exact reason is why I dump each game update.

yea i haven't found anything working other than deleting the console entirely and starting from the cartridge which also means no 1.1 patch.
