ahh rip, ty for the program recomendation.
The reason is PNG and JPG both have (relatively) complex compression going on which takes a lot of code space where BMP is literally just the pixels from bottom to top, hardly any conversion required. We've only got a couple dozen KB of code to play with for the whole in-game menu so something fancier isn't exactly practical. Not 100% impossible, but more complex than really worthwhile.

ahh ok that makes alot of sense. Do you mind if i ask why you only have a couple dozen KB of code that you can play with.

Because there's a game running :P

It's not impossible as more code could be loaded from SD as needed after parts of the game's RAM has been backed up to SD (this is already done for graphics data), but currently we don't do that for the code.

ahh fair lmao.

Wait I'm sorry I thought this was the TWiLight Menu++ thread, I can't speak so definitively about Luma3DS but I'm sure the reasoning is similar. Due to the much larger amount of RAM on 3DS it may well have enough room for a PNG/JPEG encoder, but I'm sure it's not a ton either, PNG is also a lot slower to encode than BMP.

Autobooting 3dsx files only seems to work about 1 in 10 times that I start up the system. The other 9 out of 10 times, there's an ARM11 exception error screen (prefetch abort in process ns).

Autobooting into DSi mode works more often, but still fails a lot. Probably about 50% of the time. When it fails, the system just shuts down quietly after a few seconds on a blank screen. No exception error or other sign of what the issue is.

I checked the luma3ds issue tracker on Github and no one else seems to have mentioned this problem. My system is a New 2DS XL and my microSD is a good quality one that never has issues in any other case. Is there something else I can do to make this autoboot feature work more reliably?

I also hoped the option to execute threads on core2 would help out in emulators like mGBA and DaedalusX64, but they perform exactly the same. Should homebrew see a benefit from this feature or is it only for commercial games?

Those were the only two features I was really interested in in this update and they don't seem to be working for me, so for now I'll stick with Nutez' fork. I don't get why his changes weren't incorporated into the update. Was it an oversight or intentional?

Hello, latest sysupdate is safe or Luma need some updates ?
^ Also wanting to hear whether or not the new 3DS firmware update will affect hacked systems.
They say it's safe to update, but why the rush? Give it a few days until we're sure it is.

Yeah, at this rate I don't think I'll be updating at all, unless it brings along significant benefits. I can't imagine it does tho, I think the 3DS 'officially' died when the EShop was shut down, if that makes sense.

It won't bring anything. the reason why people would want to update is so they can play online, and you have to be on the latest fw otherwise it won't allow you play online.

Really? I may have to update then, as I'd like the option for online play. I'm still going to wait a wee bit until it's 1000% confirmed that it won't mess with my hacked 2DS, though.
