Why not answer the question (if this was a real post of somebody asking)?
"Burning" is a colloquial term for recording or writing to a "blank" (or at least appendable) CD-R – Compact Disc Recordable. It means changing the light absorbing/reflecting properties of the dye material on selected areas on the disc simulating the pit/land structure of a pressed CD. This is done with a strong laser (way stronger than the reading laser) following the spiral track given by the pregroove.

By the way:
i was there. This morning…

Who says nobody answered the question on the social network where it was posted and where the original poster could see the reply? And what is the point of answering it here, a forum dedicated to running *AHEM* backups off of burned CDs? Presumably the concept is not entirely alien to regular posters.

Somebody must have created that picture (meme?). Did you put the two parts together yourself or did you find it already in that form?

My question targets the fact that some meme picture (related to B) below) was created at all instead of replying. My short explanation is obviously not needed here, you are right about this. It serves as an example what could have been an adequate way of dealing with >>Wft is "burning CDs"<<

There is no source. No link to the original post. Nothing where I could see if some answer was posted below (or if these answers are just of the type "lol").

Two things about this:
A) I have always disliked the usage of "backups" (in quotes) or any other form of implying the word is used as a poor euphemism for plain illegal copies. Backups are a legitimate interest (and often lawful no matter what some EULA shown after buying says!)
B) Most people nowadays look down with despise on using optical media and make fun of the topic. Writing to CDs/DVDs isn't as prominent as other forms of backup loading (or more often illegal copies loading).

Found it like that.

Maybe it was created in addition to replying? You are quick to assume the worst. You can write a reply and experience surprise at the inevitable march of time (and technology) at the same time. And nothing illustrates the march of technological... stuff (I won't say progress) more than the fact that something that was ubiquitous what feels like yesterday, is now so completely gone from everyday use that there is an entire generation that has never encountered it. You have to admit that it is niche knowledge nowadays, limited to a few hobbies.

Well I myself found it in this collection of maymays and that's where my trail ends.
I didn't expect a simple meme from an "I feel old and behind the times" meme collection to elicit such strong reactions to warrant hunting down the original post to make sure it had a happy resolution (it's not like I posted that "bulldog puppy can't get up" video (that one has a happy resolution too, btw.)).

The intention is not to make fun of the first person for asking, it's to make the second person feel old for knowing the answer. Aforementioned hobbies notwithstanding.

And I always enjoyed the "for legal reasons I will use transparent euphemisms in the interest of plausible deniability" gag format. It would be a funny word if we were all alike.

Most people look down on older optical media but they know what older optical media are.
