I'm gonna use this to remind everyone that your downvote can potentially stop this from happening.
I thought the same, but I didn't want to actually post it.
@M4x1mumReZ The up/down buttons are clearly visible. I guess there are more people like me who dislike distractions and animation while trying to concentrate on the actual content, so the idea didn't get upvoted. It is kind of strange to advertise the own post
"Hey, upvote my idea!" Reminds me on the omnipresent
"Don't forget to like and subscribe!" in virtually any bad YouTube video
(similar to the posts above: A reason to click on "
" instead… but I don't have a Google account anyway) . On the other side I have to emphasize you are not the first to explicitly ask people to upvote a suggestion.
To be clear: I did
not downvote this (neither upvote) because I simply don't care. There are so many annoyances on the web, that a browser without adblocker/scriptblocker is unbearable anyway, so if there are animated avatars at some point it's two clicks to get rid of them for people who don't want it.
If this is considered at some point, I'd suggest – if technically possible – to add an option to the settings, so that anybody can choose to not have animations even without any blocker (just like the custom patron profile colors, which can be disabled)
I mean if the mods wanted to save users' data they wouldn't have this news video autoplaying in the corner of my screen right now
Modern, complex websites don't go easy on data volume and/or CPU anyway. Huge pictures. Embedded videos. Scripts loading tons of third-party content…
But the affiliate videos can be disabled in the settings, even without ad-free account upgrade.
