I hope not that it doesn't end up like it did with many torrent sites
there are hosts that are down and I'm worried
the first thing that comes to mind is that the copyright closed them

Copyright only has effects on exploits when copyrighted code is used to create access to said exploits. If the tools that are used to leverage the discovered exploits contain no copyrighted code then there is really nothing that can be done from a legal stand point.

can there be a threat that closes host? could sony do it?
Why are some hosts no longer there?
With the pc I wanted to go to a host out of curiosity and the host is no longer there
the host was there when the youtuber made the video a year ago

-I don't know. I don't have a crystal ball that allows me to see into the future. If sony improves their os, then sure, exploits could stop.
-Because no one has released anything yet.
-Youtube videos are mostly bullshit. You should never follow a video to exploit a console and follow a proper guide.

And many JB's can be self hosted, so taking those down would be an exercise of futility...
then that's why some hosts are no longer there
thank goodness
i am quiet
if i were the president of sony i would shut down the hosts
In my opinion whoever opens a host is doing a crime
the president of sony doesn't want ps4 users to jailbreak
hosts annoy the president of sony

If you feel hosts are a crime, then why are you using them to exploit your console? Sounds like you might have some moral issues you need to work on if this is the case. While Sony may care, there is not much they can do since the exploit itself is just an exploit, it's up to the user of said exploit to choose what they want to do with it. Also new exploits don't usually come out until the firmware has been updated to make said exploit unusable on the latest firmware thus blocking access to their online services for the most part for modded consoles.
If you choose to use the exploit for piracy then Sony if they choose to would come after you. Not the creator of the exploit since it doesn't contain any copyrighted code. The onus becomes on you, the user.

I have no moral problems
I'd lose money if I were the president of Sony
then all is well
jailbreak forever
W the jailbreak W the hosts :-)

You take down one, three more pop up. It's the same deal with the example you gave, torrent sites. And it's why a certain large torrent site is still around. To keep using the torrent websites example, they are simply databases which take maybe a few gigabytes of data? They're simple to keep backed up for everyone to download and re-host. It's a similar deal with exploit hosts, only much easier as instead of gigabyes they can be as small as kilobytes.

So to answer it in another way, there would be no point for Sony to target exploit hosts. They put their focus into stopping the exploits from happening in the first place. Once the exploit has been discovered, there's no stopping it from being used without patching it through firmware updates.

You cant really copyright exploits, specially that freebsd is opensource to begin with and sony is obliged to share any changes they made on ps4 operating system which is based on freebsd9.

Maybe sony can sue someone if that usb jig just like ps3 happens again, after all that jig ia probably propietary enough that some can get jailed if used wrongfully.

Actually there is no obligation of sharing. BSD license, like Apache, MIT and similar only reguire that any derivative bears the copyright clause announcing that the software uses licensed code. Companies do donate code back, but they can keep any modifications closed source if they so wish.

I think he means circumventing measures that control access to a copyrighted work, which is a violation of DMCA & other equivalent laws based on a WIPO treaty. Sony seem more interested in fixing exploits and pushing out new firmware and have new games and update require the new firmware. For better or worse.

freebsd is opensource, but it's released under the BSD license. Therefore Sony do not have to share any changes with anyone.
Microsoft and Apple also have used BSD in closed source products, it's perfectly fine and legal. You'll have to take it up with BSD why they are ok with it. My theory is that it's a good idea for a university if your code is copied by the entire industry as your students will already have experience with the code as soon as they graduate. If you are not aware, the B in BSD refers to the University of California, Berkley.

Some talented coders are more than happy to donate their code for any use. One of the main devs of Postfix arguably the leading opensource MTA told one inquirer on mailing list that if he sees his code is used in commercial product he knows that at least parts of the said product can be trusted of being high quality.

BSD's (and BSD licenses or derivatives) do not have any ties to UCB anymore beside the historical ones, but are still used in several very prominent and high quality opensource products: Apache, NGINX, Postfix, Postgres, Dovecot, Cyrus, LLVM, BSD's etc. And for one reason or the other the devs are more than happy to license their code on very lenient terms.

Sony: “we will pay you $10k for your exploit, but just wait for a bit for us to patch it, and then you can go present it all publicly, yeah?”

At what point could they go after hosts?

They won’t, but if they did, cutting one down would spark 5 more to appear in its place.

As someone else said: futile.

The only reason the jig or the original ps3 hack were considered illegal was due to the use of Sony's private keys being used and published to circumvent the system. Thus copyrighted material.

keys are not copyrightable, which is why the DMCA was required.

However any circumvention is a violation, even if it doesn't require keys. For example enabling FPKG by patching specific bytes in memory after getting code execution, is a violation of the DMCA.

FWIW The original jig didn't use Sony's private keys. It just exploited the USB stack, by plugging and unplugging various invalid devices in a certain order, which allowed it to patch memory.
