School blocking GBATemp, why? Possible reasons

Hello all,

A while back I posted school is blocking GBATemp, and that I bypassed it. I still bypass it, but now the question is: why is it blocked? Well... See the image below:View attachment 91130

as you can see they state you can't download pirated software, consult about using it or whatever. That might be a reason if consult means what I think it means. Also it's forbidden to engage in activities that are contrary to "good morals", but who decides what the good morals in everyday meaning are? Does the sysadmin decide? Because my morals may be different from theirs. Also you can't talk about piracy or other "offenses" (possibly also not about homebrew). Which could be why GBATemp is bloked. Are we considered criminal or perhaps a "communication platform" Also why can't we download ISO's? Because the network is SHIIIIIIITTTTT!!!!! And they "can deny access to the network without reason", which is plain dumb & taken from other companies. These ToS are totally Bullshit IMHO, and need to be broken at all cost. So who's planning to talk on tor to other criminals? /s This is something jokingly said, but who thinks students of a school for children with special needs do that?

I hope you enjoyed my sharing of the ToS, and a possible reason. Anyway: see you next time.

Bye,

No one at your school has probably specifically blocked GBATemp, whatever content filtering platform your school uses likely has GBATemp on one of the types of content lists which are blocked.

For example at work I blocked any website which Sophos deems to fall under the "Phishing" category with one click of a mouse, which i do for security. Likewise I could do that for "Gaming" websites, however don't as the company doesn't care what websites people browse on their lunch break.

Your school probably doesn't want students on gaming / hacking websites, which is understandable. If browsing GBATemp was relevant for one of your subjects they would happily unblock it i'm sure.

Wouldn't be surprised if the content filter used by your school classifies GBAtemp as a website that contains hacking/pirated software and therefore blocks it.

The school could be blocking the site simply because it's a games related site, at least that's what it was like back when I was in school through an automated filter.

I once made a games related site for a project and had to get it white listed.

Isn't it obvious? It is not a school related site. It has hacking, pirating, and plenty of other stuff the school would not expect their students to be exposed to. You go to school to learn. Not to goof off. Enjoy your time here after school. It's not that hard to do.

It is game related indeed & a community + it has pirating mentions. But I should make my own choices regarding sites. Also @JFlare I got some ADHD people in class, who are so loud during certain hours that I'm chaotic in my head the hours afterwards, so I can't concentrate. I love to bypass though. Also MEGA is allowed weirdly enough AFAIK.

Just use a proxy or VPN like I used to do while in school. Most of the crap you "learn at school has no vaule.

From the picture you posted, nothing is banned - it's just a generic captive network that asks you to login through a webpage before letting you normally visit other pages

Oh, and a specific form of piracy (as in downloading, without uploading, for personal use) isn't a penal "crime" anyway in many 1st world countries, just a violation of someone else's civil rights :)

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
