RIP Avatar and Sig.

You know how I always have an avatar that chooses an image out of a huge pool and a Sig with hilarious forum quotes?

This post is their tombstone. I found them both gone and this gem was in my inbox.
Your avatar has been removed by the staff.

Unfortunately it violated the rules of the GBAtemp forum.

Please consult the rules (quoted below) and exchange or adapt your avatar before resubmitting.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a nice a nice day!

The Rules

Avatars and signatures are available for members to personalise (sic) their posts by adding their own custom images or text. Do not abuse this right, or it will be removed.

Your posted images, avatars and signatures are constantly reviewed by the moderating staff. Images that the GBAtemp Staff find are too big or that are deemed inappropriate including obscene, pornographic, vulgar and any other distasteful or sexually explicit material will be censored, edited or removed with OR without notice; and may result in the member being warned, suspended or banned.

Users are prohibited from posting transparent/invisible images that stretch the page, and the flash-based "screamers" and 1x1 pixel flash videos. Dynamic and HTML-based images, as well as those with overly long animation sequences are also disallowed in your avatars and signatures.

The following image is an example to help you understand the maximum size of a signature graphic. You may go under and but NOT over the 500x150 pixel guideline. No exceptions.

*cut*

If you see scroll bars in a signature space, that signature is over the maximum dimension limit.

Unlike the resolution of the main signature graphic, there are no set file size limits per image.

* The maximum combined file size for all graphics in a member's avatar and signature is: 80Kb
* Members may distribute this 80Kb however they wish (Example: 30Kb avatar/50Kb sig, 50Kb avatar/25Kb sig, etc)

Here is your current avatar (for archival purposes and your benefit):

Now I'm not going to bat an eyelash at the new signature rule. Makes enough sense, and the new rules have a limit to not just image size but overall pixels.

No random avatar is just... sad. 1000+ posts and the guy's gone. He will be missed.

What's interesting is that the av was not really in violation of those rules. It was PHP based on my server and does not fit with the dictionary definition of "dynamic." But I understand some privileges are sacrificed for the greater good. I'm not bitching and moaning about mod decisions, there are plenty of other topics for that right now and go there if that's what you're looking for. I am just lamenting the loss of a good friend. Need a moment of silence...

At first I thought it was just me but....
Heran Bago: this actually seems pretty targetted (sic) at me
Gaisuto Hitokage: actualyl (sic) it was Sephi/Scuber, not you
Sephi/Scuber you are ruining it for the rest of us.

I swear, I toned that shit down when I was asked.
Also, I only had four avatars.

Heran Bago is not just the same without dynamic Sig avatar.

It doesn't make a difference how many you have... it's off-site hosting. If you have more it's worse for you and better for everyone else. And yeah I had a bunch, I put some real effort into those avatars.

I cannot blame you Scuber random avs are (were) just too cool.

I can't take it easy like this. ;_____;

The idea behind this was because dynamic avatars are essentially just bypassing the file size rule.

Even if every image was 25 KB, 100 of those is 2.5 MB. So when someone is browsing, every time they load a page with a post from you, it's like a different member's ava is loading and just adds to the load time of the page.

Oh.

Well then I guess my signature is pretty cool and safe at this point.

Word on the street is, apparently.

56k days rule huh? I could keep the whole pool under the file size limit. =(

Oh well, maybe I'll try something else like a script that chooses the avatar depending on the day of the month. Would be find bandwidth wise and it'd just be like getting on the temp and changing it every day.

I'm not trying to find loopholes or harass mods here, so please don't take it the wrong way. I just really liked that avatar.

Any decent GBAtemper would have Heran Bago's avatars on their cache already anyway. :P

It would seem to also be an unnecessary load on the server.

Fine, users host them on their own webservers, problem solved.

It's the official reason.
It's technically sound too, it makes reading a thread I've posted in twice about the same (user-end bandwidth wise) as if one more person had posted in the thread.
It would seem to also be an unnecessary load on the server.
No. Its a extra load on my personal server that I pay money for. (e: beaten, sorta)

YES YES, YOU WIN...

My stupidest post thus far

/self flagellates

Edit:

/halts flagellation

 my avatar is hosted here.

There are layers to this Fail, I have yet to tap.

That rules stupid, back when i had a dynamic ava i only had 2 images (used to be 3 but 1 was 1.5 kb over the limit!!) mine were hosted on external sites.

I might just keep this signature I dunno.

Do not know who to thank for it, JPH scuber or sephi

e: wait no it was too tall due to no one's fault but my own
JPh enacted the legislature tho

e: actually i blame the quotes and their posters for being too hilarious.
