My 3DS is dead.

FACK YOU Waterbottle!

Well I had a Badminton thingy. and well my water bottle was in my bag as well as my 3DS was.

So I came home with a smile. It vanished after I opened the pouch my 3DS was in.

I began to cy since it was on(to count my steps I made) and I opened the thing. The upper screen did not work. >.<

me turned it off, asked my father. He tried everything he could because it was wet when it was on! Well after drying it.(He knows what he was doing there) he turned it on. All hope is lost for me. Its dead. FUUUU I cry again.

Well no traces of water...

I am brining it to my game store in hope they don´t find anything! ^^

I am screwed, I did put about 650€ in it with games included I HAVE 9 GAMES.

THE RELEASE OF SELDA OOT IS NEARING AND I DON´T HAVE MY 3DS ANYMORE :glare:

Damn man I hope you understand my problem I did cry for 1 hour because of the time I did put in this device.

Damn I need my DSi XL with some good games. Could someone recommend me one I could play for a while?
I am an electronics technician, and i have repaired at least 4 devices that were water soaked (one ipod that did a complete washing cycle) 2 phones, 2 ipods. One ipod was even repaired over 6 months later, and luckily battery was still good.

Open the device completely, grab a toothbrush ( a clean one) and use isoprophyl alcohol. Wet the toothbrush with alcohol, and gently scrub the ENTIRE pcb (printed circuit board). Gently is a key word here. There might be a little piece of cloth/paper on top of the mic, remove it and blow inside, in case water accumulated. You want to remove all stains (usually white) from the board.

Alcohol will evaporate quickly let it dry a few mins, reassemble and hope for the best.

If you tried turning it on while wet, there is a good chance you destroyed the fuses though, to replace them , you will need someone with soldering skills. There is no harm if you try to turn it on with burned fuses, it will just not work.

You can test the fuses with a continuity meter (a multimeter set to resistance) if there is no continuity from one side to another, the fuses are dead. (I think there are 2 in a 3ds, at least there are in a DSi) Unfortunately , i cannot tell you where they are, i do not own a 3ds, but google sure can help you there.

Most devices can survive water damage. Especially little gadgets because most of their parts inside are sealed (capacitors) unlike bigger electronics, where the capacitors could absorb water, and need to be change as they can't dry the way they are built.

Good luck
Ill let thi over to my father. Your sounding like a pro. But I think the water is absorbed in my upper screen. The PCB is dry I believe. And the console functions very good at the other point. Its only the upper screen. Who is soaked.

This is awesome. Every game now has underwater levels.

Only that underwater levels are usually the most annoying.
Nah. I think it's awesome that you managed to get it working again (albeit the water that's still left)

No, next time you should not put yo' electronics where you put yo' liquids.

You should be more careful :teach:

I really doubt the water got inside the top screen, the screens are sealed. Water might have gotten on other parts of the screen itself, like the ribbon cable. You say now it doesnt turn on at all, its always possible the fuse burned as your dad opened the 3ds, if the battery was still there, or if he tried to place the battery after its opened , etc. It doesnt matter if the pcb is dry right now, because waters contains different minerals, which have settled on the pcb now, and causing electrical shorts between contacts, the alcohol will remove all those. Water doesnt damage the parts , its the minerals inside. Check youtube , and you will see many people using running water to clean up old electronics. The key is always to dry properly, and thoroughly. The longer between the moment it got soaked, and the moment you opened it to dry, the more the minerals have settled.

I can't find info on 3ds fuses, but i know for sure there are some. On my dsi, when a fuse was burned, the power light would flicker when i attempted to charge the battery. Check for something similar, if it doesnt turn on at all after an extensive cleaning. If you do find fuses , labeled (F#, where # is a number. ex. F1 , F2 , F125 ,etc , and check its continuity with a meter, and its burned, you can always solder a wire on both end, to close the circuit (which won'T be protected anymore, so next thing that breaks, could kill the console, so carefull). I am running my dsi with a wire instead of fuse, i did order the fuse (came on the complete pcb for d-pad) for 5$ , but havent bothered with it yet.. since dsi works and i hardly ever play.

simple, if you got the cash, buy another one, say "oh mah 3DSsss's iz noht workingz, cann haz nuew wone?"
and just make them swap the inoperable and unnoticable water damaged one for a slick new one right off the shelf.
(and obviously get your money back)

Woops you did not understand me everything works all of it. I only see the pictures I posted that the only flaw right now. But Ill try to brush the PCB.

Lets play hide and seek with my 3DS!
