I now have respect for the Gameboy

Since I was born in 1993, I grew up on the Sega Genesis, NES, SNES, and the consoles that were popular (And affordable) during that era. One system I was never a huge fan of was the Gameboy/Gameboy Color line. I had a Gameboy Color and liked a few of the games for it, but I was always left with the impression I wasn't playing the right games. Recently I found Lameboy for the DS so I decided to emulate a few Gameboy titles.

And man is it awesome.

For one, Super Mario Bros Deluxe is probably the best version of the original Super Mario Brothers I've played. Not only do the physics feels better than the original, but the extra features really lend to the game, and you can play as Luigi.

Another awesome game was The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. I've heard a bit about this since the release of the 3DS version, so I thought I would give it a spin and see what the fuss was about. I'm not that far yet, but I like it a lot so far. I'm at the part where you have to enter the swamp dungeon with the Chain-Chomp thing, and I plan on getting to that today. Great fun.

And for the hell of it, I started a file on Pokemon Blue. Even though it looks dated, the gameplay is still as fresh and fun as ever. The simplicity of it over the new Pokemon games is what I think I like the most about it.

In addition to these, I've also played Disney Tetris, Metal Gear solid, Mario Tennis, Kirby's Dreamland 2, and more. I feel like I discovered a bunch of lost games I had never played before and love it.

It took you this long to appreciate the Gameboy? Someone take away his gamer card!

I was poor in the mid-90's sadly :(

At least I came around eventually though.

Better late than never. :)

You should also give Donkey Kong, Mole Mania, Zelda - Oracle of Ages and Seasons, Harvest Moon 1, 2, 3, Shantae, Dragon Warrior 1, 2, 3 and Dragon Quest Monsters a try.

Actually one thing I hated about the Gameboy was the lack of a backlight. I remember it being an absolute pain.

well you could still mod it or buy that light accessory

Wario Land 3.

PLAY IT NAO.

DO EET.

oh, one other thing: try the ORIGINAL GAMEBOY Link's awakening, learn the screen warp and have fun with quite possibly the most amusing glitch in gaming, ever. You're also lucky to be using Lame in this case, as if you do some really crazy stuff in the real cart it can near kill it. Since it's just a ROM though, don't worry about that and have fun :D

Two words. MOLE MANIA.

You will be cursing this game to the lowest pits of hell, and have a blast at the same time. It took me 2 years to beat it (gamefaqs didn't exist back then)

animemaster, that's sorta redundant when I can emulate the GBC on my PSP. And I lost my Gameboy years ago.

My mom used to say it might as well not be portable since you practically need to be sitting under a desk lamp to see the screen :D

oh, and here's an example of how insane the original awakening can get with that glitch:

I'm pretty sure that this world and many, many others entertained me more than the actual game as a kid.

Oh, and when you go into this world, be prepared to find millions of power bracelets.

i prefer the ''real thing''
when i didn't have a gbc i emulated on my ds (and since i don't have a flashcart i still emulate sometimes along with gba emulation on the psp)
off topic:what good flashcart should i get for my gbc/gba?

Isn't it well known that handheld gaming hit it's peak with the GB and GBC? I have four gameboy colors that I actually use pretty often. Fun.
