Well, I always insult my friends, outta habit, like, I always call them: fag, stupid, dumbass, weakling, coward, etc... I don't say them to offend them, it's just how I talk with guys (I never insult a girl tho, even if just kidding), they know that so they don't mind. I'm pretty sure your friend will understand and know you weren't serious, besides, sometimes we just let off some steam and say stuff we didn't mean. If he's your friend, he'll understand.

Stupidity aside, a real friendship wouldn't be ended so trivialy.

Take the steps to repair the damage, maybe hand-write a note about how awful you feel, maybe you should research instances of oppression against the Polish so you can prove that you made an effort to understand why the insult would sting.

True friends are allowed to insult each other. One of my friends call me Malteaser and I call him Milky Bar Kid. He's said a lot worse as well
