Had a somewhat undignified day at work today

So, many of you may not be aware of this, but I work at Walmart as a Sales Associate in the Electronics Department. It's really not that bad, and it teaches you how to deal with "Those People"

Today I had a rather undignified day at work, it went something like this.

I have been suffering from random pain problems on my right knee for 9 years. The worst was the first year they occurred, I apparently had ground down my bone quite a bit on my kneecap. Admist all the work I have done to recuperate and deal with the off and on random pain over the years, It still nags me to this day. I put up with it now though. I guess you could say I have a weak knee > w <

Time: 9:00 AM
Location: Electronics Department, Towards Laptop Display
My Zone Manager asked me to help set up passwords on the Display Laptops, because apparently parents just let their kids do whatever and end up passwording them with random gibberish and whatnot, which doesn't allow us to sell the displays when it comes time (Yes we do that). Everything is just fine, I start walking with her over there. We get about 5-8 feet away from the checkstands back there and my Knee suddenly decides now would be a great time to give out on me.

Just as this happens, she turns around to ask me something and I suddenly fall down on myself and drop on my right side (Which still is stiff from the past few days) onto to the floor and grab my knee in pain. She thinks I've just cut myself or broken something and almost panics. I then quickly told her that it's just my knee acting up again, and I'll be ok in a minute or two as I slowly get up and hobble and stumble. Not entirely the most graceful thing I have done in front of someone I consider to be one of my bosses, but ok...so far it's the only thing thats gone on to me today.

Time: 12:00 AM
Location: Electronics Department - Near Doors to backroom.

Ok, so I know where the doors leading to our backroom are, but for some reason I lacked the grace. I was answering a question from one of my associates near the photo department, which is right next door. I should have known better than to turn my head and keep walking while also talking at the same time. I suddenly run face-first into the door and fall back onto my rear. About half of my coworkers that were there in the department witnessed this happen, hilarity ensued. Even I lol'd. I then went to lunch.

Time: 1:00 PM
Location: Backroom (Heading back out to Electronics from lunch)

Right in front of my assistant manager, and right after he tells me I'm doing a great job (I've been selling Laptops, TV's, and pretty much everything like it was going out of style recently), I manage to trip over myself, and twice again over thin air/nothing. Somewhat undignified, and my assistant manager did ask if I was ok, but otherwise I just chuckled to myself about it.

Time: 2:00 PM
Location: Register (Electronics Department)

This was probably the coup de grace of the day. I was ringing someone up, all fine as usual. Suddenly my stomache churns and aches, and I turn even more pale than I usually am anyway (Believe me, I'm pretty pale in terms of skin color, I dont get alot of sun exposure, and I've actually always been sensitive to it anyway, I burn in like 10 minutes or less). Not entirely sure what it was, as I'm not actually sick with anything at the present time, must have been what I ate for lunch (Cant even remember what it was). I shout over to one of my coworkers who was in the connection center, to come over here and finish ringing them up for me. At this point I realize what I am about to do, and knowing that I wouldn't make it to the restrooms up front (Damn you renovations on the backroom Restrooms), in time, at least had the saving grace to be able to grab a garbage can before I threw up for the first time ever in my history of working at my Walmart. Definately not the most graceful or dignified thing I've ever done in front of customers and my coworkers

Apparently one of the other associates had gone and grabbed a manager or something and brought him out, which low and behold was my awesome assistant manager from earlier. He asked if I was feeling ok, or if I needed to go home. I told him to just let me grab a sprite or something from over near TLE (We has drink coolers over there), and let me sit down and recuperate for about 15 mins to half and hour and I'd be ok.

Sure enough that was all it took, but I did tell him if I did end up feeling ill tomorrow that I'd call and let them know. I don't think I'm coming down with anything either way.

He also asked earlier what had happened when I fell down and grasped my knee in front of my ZMS. I explained to him that I have knee problems, and have had them for 9 years now. It's not nearly as bad as It used to be, but it's off and on, and comes without any warning, even with my Knee Brace on it still troubles me. He said he's at least gonna get some stuff sorted out so that the CSM's dont call me out to push carts when they have nobody there to cover, which really isnt my duty anyway since they should be using common sense to do the scheduling and not rely on a computer system that cant predict jack to schedule people.

So yeah, today has quite possibly been the most clutzy, undignified, and otherwise off day I have ever had at work. I am hoping tomorrow will be slightly more dignified.

Real Names and or Names altogether have been excluded to protect identity's.

Thanks, I'll likely be fine toomorow. I'll probably just get joked at by my co's, we'll laugh, I'll buy us all soda on one of our breaks, and all will be well.

The knee problems will probably last me for all of eternity, it's also on my dominant knee...yeah...great combination is it not.

It used to be worse as I mentioned before. The first day I learned I had problems, I couldnt walk downstairs. I had to slide on my rear, granted I didnt have a job back then, but still...

It felt essentially that day 9 years ago, like someone had taken a crapton of knives and stabbed my kneecap at every possible angle, and then lit it on fire.

Now it just aches like crazy every so often, and caves out randomly. Physical therapy helped years ago, but I dont think any amount of excessive and whatnot will ever bring it back to before that time.

I remember what I had for lunch. One of those frozen buffet meal things...gonna scratch that one off my "Good to Eat" list.

Btw, we carry Big Red apparently at our Wal-Mart. My first reaction was "Hawt Daymn!"

Mellow Yellows still more pro though.

Maybe you should let it get checked again. Could be the pains or whatever else is in your knee also influenced your stomach indirectly. Pain or infections sometimes do things like that.
Could i ask what exactly happened to your knee 9 years ago?

I'm somewhat curious...
Well, I dont know. I used to have PE classes almost every day in High School, and I've never been the athletic sort. It happened back in High School in my Junior Year.

I got up one day from bed, and I put my leg down, I tried to stand up, and it felt like someone had jabbed knives into ever possible angle of my kneecap. I couldn't stand up or walk, so I slid downstairs on my rear end, and informed my parents. We ended up getting an appointment, did some x-rays. I had ground down my kneecap a bit, enough to cause such pain.

Insert 2 months of physical therapy here.

During this time, I still went to PE class, but I did not participate in any excessive or physical activity. I actually just helped out with stuff in the office.

After my physical therapy was over, one of the less friendly faculty who taught PE decided that I absolutely had to participate again, or he would fail me (Which he has no right to as he want even my instructor). I gave him my doctors note, which basically said that I was not to do any more physical excesrise outside of the ones that were given to be by said doctor (Simple stretching ones really). He decided he was above said doctor and wailed and came unglued on me, and I actually smirked back, because our Principle had just walked in to the office, and had overheard it all.

He apparently was fired later that week, lots of complains had apparently been filed, but I digress.

The issues have been off and on lately, and I honestly do not want to have surgery, it's not to the point where I have to use a wheelchair to get around obviously. So, I have a knee brace which helps immensely, but every so often it just starts up without warning and 2-10 minutes later it's fine. It's not creaking either, which is good.

I guess it was just the PE classed that did it. I ended up being a office aid in my senior year in place of PE (Also thanks to a doctors note), which I didn't mind one bit. It wasn't as laborious as PE and I actually rather enjoyed it. I was pretty fast too, and never missed a single notice once.

I'll get it checked out at some point when I'm not so busy, but I think it's just gonna be a case of random chronic pain that spurs up every so often, and then is just fine after. I don't think it's anything too serious. Irony is that my mom had knee problems on the opposite leg, but I already know this isn't something that was genetically involved

It's also not an infection, I know that much. It would be puffed and bloated in appearance if it were. I haven't ever impaled it on anything either, and I'd easily rule this out, since I would likely be in the hospital if it happened.

Btw, even though I used my Knee brace today, it didn't give me any trouble. Which is a good thing, and I didn't puke, and I am almost certain that it was that lunch-meal-frozen-buffet thing I ate yesterday that caused it.

Albiet I was finishing some soda on the way back from my lunch and some of it as some would put it "Went down the wrong tube", my Assistant manager is like 5 feet away. I coughed and gagged a bit, drank some more "strangely seems to help" and was fine. I'm kind a tough cookie anyway.

Today was awesome though, I even bought a 3DS! So in leu of that, I'm gonna listen to this upbeat track from Touhou 13, Namely Mamizou Futatsuiwa's Theme

Ya i would definetly get the knee rechecked By the sounds of it your a Younger person and Just letting it fester may seem good for now but you will pay for it later.. get it fixed even if it means surgery, What if your knee goes when your driving and you get in an accident or any other number of things.. FIX IT!

Thats the weird thing though, my Knee is perfectly fine when I'm sitting/laying down. It has never given out when I've been driving, sitting in a chair, etc

It only ever goes out on me while I'm on my feet walking around, or standing. I'm gonna get it checked out this week.

I still would rather not go to the point of surgery unless I really need it. It's probably just weaker than it would normally be because of what I mentioned in my last post (PE Class and all that). It's not nearly as bad as it used to be all those 9 years ago when I was 14.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
