God I hate HTC Desire...

Stupid motherboard problems!! Today I got so pissed I actually took out the battery and threw the phone on the floor (carpet floor that is), nothing damaging but I'm so pissed at it, I thought Android HTC was good, maybe I took a wrong turn by going for HTC.

Somebody recommend me a good Android phone please? And no I don't want to replace the motherboard for the 3rd time. (Got the Phone in January 2011 ffs)

Problems:- Overheating while just SMSing, and reboots randomly even if its cool as ice.

Sounds like you got a defective unit. I would've just tried taking it to where you bought it and seeing what they can do about that but...

Nah I've already wasted too much money on its repairs, I can't be bothered to waste even a dollar on it now. I heard Samsung Galaxy S2 is good, hmm, will check reviews and all.

i had one, same problem, ended up selling it in the black market, got myself a nokia n900

i think us "middle easterners" get the bad stuff

- is the make Chinese or Taiwanese ? my friend got his Taiwanese made and he has NO issues what so ever.

Maybe you should complain about it more and then it'll be magically better.

Get out and do something about it.

China....

HTC phones are usually good, where'd you get it? If it's still under warranty you should be able to replace/return it.

Hmm my friends madly in love with his htc desire...no problems from him. If you do end up replacing it, i can back up the samsung galaxy s2.

Bah been 3 hours, tried everything, not even booting up to menu, stays at HTC, sometimes it goes haywire and makes vibration noises 7-10 times then stops. CyanogenMod7 is installed on it btw.

Just got the Desire S and it's brilliant. The old Desire tops many lists of highest scoring phone reviews so sounds like you just got a dud. Surely you should be able to get it replaced by your carrier or whatever if you've only had it a few months?

It's rooted, I heard roots void the warranty...come to think of it, it worked fine when it was still a original firmware phone, but then again, problems start after weeks of usage.

i really don't want to sound ignorant, i aint bashing on HTC or anything, but it really seems the case with these Chinese desire's

really i suggest selling it, just get rid of it .

The faulty motherboard thing is a known problem with the Desire, and they will replace it free of charge under warranty. You should try bringing it in and playing dumb about the root. Chances are, they won't even check.

This is my 3rd Motherboard....(1 original, 2 replacements), i'll go with Maz7006, looks like Chinese desires are faulty to the core.

EDIT:- I still am confused, why does the Desire restart (sometimes) when I press "Send" SMS....and then it takes 1-2 hours of rebooting, taking out battery and stuff before it works again. Its the default SMS app of CM7 (Even Stock FroYos' SMS app had the same error)

Are you certain it's the motherboard and an overheating problem and not an issue with your chosen rooted firmware, considering you've repeatedly replaced the motherboard to no effect?

Well I'm sure its not motherboard/overheating problem (replacing motherboards never helped), since it reboots even if its at normal temperature. I'll tell you the scenarios it reboots on, decide what the problem could be:-
- While gaming/Wi-Fi, if I keep using phone for 10mins or more, the phone reboots (overheated or not, it just does)
- While SMSing, and pressing the "Send" button, it will restart and stop working for hours (not an SMS app prob, since it happened on FroYo, CM7 & MIUI roms)
The SMS app problem comes once or twice a month. The gaming/wi-fi one, everytime.
- It rebooted once while I was on a call.
- Can't record Video for more than 1 min, it overheats and goes boom, into the HTC boot screen.
- Snapping more than 10-12 pictures, reboots it.
- And finally, even if I'm minding my own business, scrolling through menus, gallery, settings etc. It will restart after 15mins or so.

So basically, it's not usable beyond 15mins.
Stays fine if on stand-by.

Could you try a factory reset, leave the battery out for a while and and just using stock everything (ie not installing apps) for a day? Could be loads of things really, a task killer automatically ending a process it shouldn't, a bad rom flash, faulty micro sd card (HTCs stream lots of apps and stuff direct from the sd, so when it loses conenction to it it can go loopy, as I found when my SD slot died on my Hero). If you send it to HTC the first thing they'll try to do it to reflash the rom, so that's probably the best thign you can try yourself.

Ah loads of solutions, just because you took the time in writing all this, I'll give this crap one last chance, factory reset it, unroot it back to normal, and use a diff SD card.

EDIT:- I removed my 4GB SD card, one that came with the phone and inserted a 2GB SD, phone booted up first try. Removed task killer, now phone is charging, will test rest later.
