Finally going to graduate

After 12 years studying on and off various degrees I'm finally going to graduate from something. Woohoo! Had my last exam on the 7th June, felt like it went well but there's always that niggling doubt that you did something stupid and didn't realise it (like not understanding some questions properly or missing a whole sheet of questions). But exam results were available today to allay those illogical fears. I even got enough for a distinction grade which pushes me up to a credit average overall. This doesn't matter so much now since I have a job, but would have been important if I was applying for grad programs, which usually require credit average minimum.

congratulation, i know you are a math teacher, but what are studying for 12 years?

Congratulations!!! I hope now you can excel at your job or something (I’m not even in Uni yet, unsure of what really happens after that)! Good luck!

@aos10, not a maths teacher sadly, did a computer science degree. I started doing a science degree and changed my majors multiple times (started off physics and maths, then chemistry and maths, then chemistry and geology, then biology and geology) and never ended up graduating from it. Ended up switching to computer science in a completely different university.

wow, that's really dedication, big respect for that, i tried going to computer science but i hated programming languages, so i choose computer engineering, more hardware, less software.

Congrats but what's with the Assessment 1 score? Everything is like XX.xx, then you got a 4.99986, SERIOUSLY? Just round it up or down somewhere already:rofl2:

@ThoD I think I know why, there were lots of questions, like maybe 30 or so. Probably the score for each question was added up and the result retains the rounding error. E.g. 1/30 is 0.0333...... So if they added up 1/30 rounded (0.033 say) then times 30 (0.99) then times 5 to make it out of 5 (4.95) that would lead to the weird score

    But it's a dead end
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, i only have like 1 or 2 mb sec

Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

@BigOnYa, although the bullets are a bit buggy

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
