Decisions Decisions.....

Ok - so this Saturday I was (dragged) down the local shopping center, with (by) 'Her indoors'

While she popped into a shop to look for something - I stayed outside & just glanced into the local CEX store window... mainly to have a laugh at some of their 'cheap prices' for 2nd hand stuff (which if you didn't know is not always 'cheaper' than a new one)

And what did I see - a 2nd-hand Black 3DS !!! - going for the 'cheap' price of £150 (FYI - here in England the cheapest 'New' 3DS price I've seen in the shops is £199.95)
Now I wasn't even considering getting a 3DS - well not until a 3DS Flashcard came out that is ;) - but seeing that, I was sorely tempted...

I was thinking I could get this + a 3DS game (as in Zelda ooT - I'm a Zelda fan BTW) LESS than buying a brand new 3DS (BTW Z:ooT was also going 'cheap' in the local supermarket) & I could still use my DSTwo for all the other DS games BUT.....

.... The DSLIte I've given my Mum to play with is now falling apart (well, it IS a few years old now - brought it when they first came out), the left hand hinge has totally gone, there quite a bit of 'contact issues/freezing' occuring with it & I'm sure that the top screen was originally brighter than it is now
So being the considerate son I was thinking of getting her a DSi XL [~£144]
- since her eyesight not was it use to be...& she can only see out of one eye anyway (so a 3DS is DEFINITELY out of the question ) - the larger screen would be better than squinting at the smaller DSlite one IMHO

I just don't know what to do  ......

buy 3DS ,
replace case on DSLite ,

everyone is happy ?

or ,

get DSiXL ,
happy mom :D

either way , the DSiXL has a great screen .
the upsizing isn't noticeable when i play on it , and it feels nicer to play on .

Well....
She is your mum.
Also, plus 10 karma points. But TBH it's your choice, you're not a bad person if you buy the 3DS.

Being the selfish person I am, I'd get the 3DS if I were you, OoT is simply the best game I've bought in a looooong time, who cares if it's a remake.

Or that...

I could buy the 3DS, give my old DSi to Mum - then wait for her birthday (which is near end of the year) & buy a 'XL'... should be cheaper then ;)

I was heading to becoming an alcoholic in my younger days (started drinking @ the young age of 7 finishing off Dad's 'leftovers' & by my college days I was drinking ~4-5 pints a day... still have the occasional drink though :grog:)

oh , oh really :D ?
sounds like a good idea .
though your mom might feel like you're just passing down your old stuff xD .

everyone's happy with their own new upgrades :P

Well I've taken the plunge & I'm now the proud owner of a Aqua blue 3DS + Zelda:oot game (But I've NOT passed on the ol' DSi just yet)

Been playing with a few of the options so far & tried out Zelda... Bloody Hell, the 3D Actually WORKS (I must be one of the few who had never seen the 3D effect before now)

Although I 'saved' money on the 3DS... the shop that had Z:ooT for <£30 had sold out - DAM, so I had to buy a 'full priced' version of that for £34.

Even though though the 3DS was '2nd-hand' it seems the PIN was still valid

My mother has no vision in one eye but still quite likes the 3DS with the 3D turned off. You might want to let her have a go on yours like that and see what she thinks. Also you do know online you can get a 3DS for £165 from reputable retailers?

You know, I drink 5-8 pints most days and don't consider myself an alcoholic.

You saw the second-hand black one but got a blue in the end, then? How much was that one?

I'm still proud that I managed to get a new Cosmos Black for £148.99 from GAME. :creep:
Weird that the black ones were that cheap yet the blue ones were still full price...

When asked how the Black was 'unboxed' yet the box was there in the window - I was told that there are 'bits missing from it', while the blue was complete.
Didn't ask to have it opened up to see what was actually 'missing' - I would guess perhaps the AR cards were or perhaps the PIN had been used - & since my last couple of systems were 'black' I just fancied a change

Oh & I now know it was definitely 2nd-hand - after taking a couple of tryout photos, I looked at them & there were a few 'extras' on the card... - just a couple of cat,boy on settee, girl & grownup kicking a football in garden & 3 containers of 'sugar','coffee' and 'tea' on a shelf... weird what some people take photos off

Well, I've taken photos of the plates and glasses and stuff from when I was out at lunch (when I was still away from here) with it, because I thought it made a good scene to test out the 3D.
