I'm a guitarist. You're probably not surprised. Before I started playing guitar, I played a FUCKTON of Guitar Hero and Rockband (and still do occasionally), and Rocksmith seemed perfect for me. I haven't really been that interested in it until very recently, so I decided to "obtain" a "DRM-free version" to make sure it's actually easy to follow and fun to play before pulling the trigger on buying it.
Start the game, plug my bass guitar into my audio interface, plug my audio interface in... And I get to calibration before it says to plug in my Rocksmith RealTone cable.
Well.. I don't have one. I scour the internet for a while, trying every solution I can, even trying cracks, and the only thing I find is "From the main menu, turn on microphone mode, it'll let you use an audio interface!" But I can't get to the main menu without doing calibration, which I can't do without a RealTone cable. So what's the point?
It's absolutely infuriating to me that you HAVE to have some proprietary piece of garbage cable that you have to buy separately, making the game cost $55 even 6 years after release, and official discontinuation. $30 for the game, $25 at least for the cable, but that can vary from anywhere between there, and $50, depending on where you buy them from, because they're not actually being sold in stores anymore. It's ludicrous.
Not to mention that I'm forced to use some janky audio-to-USB cable instead of using my expensive, low-latency guitar recording rig, that cable will eventually break as all things do. 10 years from now, are people still gonna be making audio interfaces and guitar recording equipment? Of course! Are people gonna be making "Official" Realtone cables? No, because they aren't right now, as I type this. So, the game is more or less just.. Dead now. Nothing I can do unless I wanna shill out the dough for that proprietary cable, which I refuse to do on principal. I'll just practice with follow-along tabs like I did before.
P.S.. My immediate reaction to seeing that I can't do anything without that stupid cable was tightening my grip on my mouse, and muttering "I wanna find the guy who designed this shit, and tear their jaw off of their head with my bare hands."
